Prefontaine or Without Limits. Both about Steve Prefontaine.

This is what I came in here to say.
Not exceptional but good enough to make the Olympics.

I own both of these movies on dvd.
I’ll add another obscure one from the cycling genre: American Flyers. A young Kevin Costner is a bike racer who invites his younger brother to come race with him to patch up their troubled relationship.
Being a bike racer, the actual racing scenes are pretty inaccurate, but still a great movie.
It and Breaking Away got me in to the sport back in 85. Been riding and racing ever since.

Inspirational Sports Movies: An Average Person’s Journey to Greatness
“Warrior” (2011): Directed by Gavin O’Connor, this film tells the story of two estranged brothers who enter a mixed martial arts tournament. Their paths intersect as they both strive to overcome personal challenges and achieve greatness in the ring.
“Rudy” (1993): Based on a true story, “Rudy” follows the journey of Rudy Ruettiger, an undersized football player with a dream of playing for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Despite numerous obstacles, Rudy’s determination and hard work lead him to achieve his goal.
“Rocky” (1976): The classic underdog tale of Rocky Balboa, a small-time boxer who gets a shot at the heavyweight championship. His relentless training and unwavering spirit make this film an enduring inspiration.
“Bend It Like Beckham” (2002): While this movie does involve soccer (football), it focuses on the journey of a young woman named Jess who dreams of playing professionally. Jess faces cultural expectations and family pressure but remains committed to her passion for the sport.
“The Karate Kid” (1984): Daniel LaRusso, an ordinary teenager, learns karate from Mr. Miyagi to defend himself against bullies. His transformation from a novice to a skilled martial artist is both heartwarming and motivating.
Remember, these films highlight the perseverance, dedication, and hard work required to achieve greatness, even for those who start as average individuals. Enjoy watching! ????

Breaking Away
Great movie.
I'll throw out The World's Fastest Indian. About an obscure New Zealander with limited resources (played by Anthony Hopkins) who brings his motorcycle to Utah to try to break the speed record. A hidden gem of a movie.
