Mad Max, yeah
All the other Max movies feel like Adventure movies.
The new Mad Max feels like a NASCAR race. It is basically a more violent version of The Chase with Charlie Sheen.
Except that The Chase developed the plot and made you care about the characters.

I got berated at work for saying Bladerunner is overrated. I'm not saying I hate it, but it wasn't special at all in my opinion.

Right. I've gotten bored with car chases anyway. So this was a 2 hour car chase where I didn't care about any of the characters.
