I have a hard time coming up with good ones for this, as even when I'm disappointed by overly hyped movies I generally still find them at least average.

Natural Born Killers I hated, and it's well liked for the most part.

Apocalypse Now would fit the bill for me as well, though I don't know that I hated it, just thought it was a sloppy mess and wasn't that impressed (didn't help that I think Heart of Darkness is a fantastic book there I suppose).

Just watched Midnight Special and I'm with u on that. I was enjoying the build up, but the finally fell flat for me. With a more shocking or twist ending, it could have been one of my favorites this year.

Are you serious?

Early on we see that he truly has powers.

What better way than to see heaven or the world above just for a little bit. That was amazing.

I didn't like The Shining a little bit. Maybe it was casting Shelly Duval as the wife/mom. Maybe it was the pacing of the movie. Maybe it was both but I just never got the hype.

I did like Scatman Crothers character though.

The Big Lebowski

I grew up with the Eagles and that movie caused a generation of kids to hate them.

I don't care about that fricking rug or a fricking White Russian.

The hangover.

I felt like all the good parts would have been the pictures they show at the end of the movie.

Not great but a nice little comedy. I wouldn't say I hated it like my Big Fat Greek Wedding.

I didn't hate it but Gaurdians of the Galaxy is an overrated cheese fest. Still can't believe the esteem it gets here.

Almost every Tarantino movie I feel is overrated meh. His dialogue is the epitome of the geek trying way to hard to write lines that sound cool. Pulp Fiction especially. Just okay, but never grabbed me.

But that's the point of Guardians of the Galaxy. It is a total cheesefest using the background of a serious sci fi movie. Remove the Guardians themselves and it is humorless and terrible, but it's really a parody of sci-fi movies. Seriously, the Opening Scene should have tipped you off that they were parodying the genre, and then at the end with the Dance Off. I think the Dance Off may have been the hardest I laughed at a movie that year, because the mindles evil villain just achieved his ultimate victory, and then the Star Lord just makes fun of him when he's on the cusp of destroying the world.

It did a poor job of it, IMO. Where Deadpool was pitch perfect in its send up of the superhero genre and its conventions; GotG was clunky and unfunny.

I don't really "hate" any movies, but some that I find to be wildly overrated are:

The Witch - I had a hard time staying awake, bored me to tears.

Most MCU films - I enjoy them for what they are, but it can get annoying listening to fanboys praise these films.

The Force Awakens - It was mediocre, but similar to MCU fanboys, SW fans eat that shite up. We should demand more from these films. The past 4 films have been average to awful.

While I enjoy some of Tarantino's work, the dialogue he writes sounds like it could all come from the same movie, as if he was plugging in names from his own personal stash of Mad Libs. And for as long as his movies are, he shouldn't have to cop out with such dopey & forced exposition...IMO.

Maltese Falcon

Yep.

My mom raised me on TCM and old AMC, and The Maltese Falcon was always a film I wanted to see.

I had it shipped to me about 8 years ago back when Netflix was still mailing DVDs. I thought it was terrible.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago and it was on TCM, so I figured what the heck I'll record it and give it another try. It was just as bad the second time around.
