I think we all can offer examples of where we were sold bad goods off trailers that looked so much better than the film.
This should be interesting.

Godzilla 1998
Was coming to say Phantom Menace and Godzilla 1998. You and MorbidTheClown beat me to it.
Both were movies were colossal let-downs compared to the trailers which had me super-pumped.

Watchmen.
The "Take a Bow" and "The End is the Beginning is the End" trailers were so good that this movie gets defended to this very day.

It's impossible not to mention Man Of Steel here. The trailers for this movie were so exceptionally good. I still get choked up when young Clark asks, "Can't I just keep pretending I'm your son?" And Pa Kent responds almost tearing up, "You ARE my son."

Good gosh yes. This is the champion right here. I was so pumped for the guy behind it all to come back and show you what was going on before Alien, to expand the science fiction surrounding that. And you got a big steaming heaping pile of shite. Absolutely shite.
And disappointing is an understatement.
