Hopefully the Dark Tower does not fall in that category

Movie Adpation That Just Didnt DoThe Book Justice

There are just so many. I can only think of twice I've liked a move as much as or more than the book "Legally Blonde" and "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil"

Harry Potter books come close.

Been a few Crichton novels listed already but the one that always sticks out in my mind is Sphere. I remember really enjoying the book and the movie was just a total disaster.

It should have been awesome considering who was attached to it:

Director: Barry Levinson
Cast: Dustin Hoffman, Samuel L. Jackson, Liev Schrieber, Sharon Stone

It was just laugh out loud terrible though.

I remember being extremely upset during Goblet fo Fire when they skipped the Quidditch world cup game

The Goblet of Fire fricks everything up in the first scene when they reveal who the villain behind everything was. You had no clue who it was until the end of the books and that's why the book was so good.

They also really fricked up the Half Blood Prince by basically removing everything with Voldemort and were far too focused on Ron and Hermione when they should have been sidelined for a movie.

And then of course they frick up the Deathly Hallows at the very end with the ridiculous battle between Harry and Voldemort. They got so close with that one, but that just reeks of a clueless producer coming in and fricking it all up.

It's disgusting, I left the midnight premier of the first one seething. I really hope it gets redone by someone else in the near future but they absolutely bastardized the book. The LOTR hasd some deviations but good god The Hobbit(s) were atrocities.

Any of Tom Clancy's books.
bullshite. The Hunt for Red October is awesome and timeless.

Catch 22 is a good example, though I really don't think any film adaptation could ever do it justice.

The Man in the High Castle series is laughable, though I also don't think the book lends itself to film or TV very well.

yoy can't really count man in the high castle. You can't put that on a screen and stick to the book.

Child 44 if you are looking at something recent. Great book and just a dumpster fire of a movie.
I disagree with people saying The Shining or Count of MC.

I loved reading The Martian. A PG-13 movie couldn't do Mark Watney justice. Also the movie felt like he was just hanging out waiting to be rescued instead of everything going wrong on a hostile planet. I was also excited when I saw there would be a movie for Savages and that Oliver Stone was directing it. The book is a very dark and violent story and I thought Oliver Stone would do it justice. The movie was fricking terrible. It removed a lot of what made the book great. The ending was even completely different which pissed me off.

Goblet felt so rushed too.

Movies had some shining points. Umbridge was fantastic at her role and they did the best they could do with Sirius' death. That was such a garbage way to die.

Voldemort/Harry final battle took a really great scene and took a big Jurassic Park sized dump on it.
