Agree with you, and with the others who listed it. I would also add:

Fargo
Most Woody Allen movies
Pi
The Shining

Heat didn’t appeal to me. Extremely boring. Best thing was the “real” gunfight but even it was a let down when it was hyped so much.

Taxi Driver
Midnight Cowboy

Both of the above are just so depressing and have no characters that are even remotely likable. I can handle a movie that is one of those but combining both of them is a recipe for failure.

The Godfather Part II
Vertigo

Overrated does not have to mean bad. Both of the above are very good movies that I can watch often. However practically everybody thinks part II is better than the first one and I will gladly die on the hill that that is simply not the case. Similarly I have never seen one film nerd who did not think Vertigo was the best movie Hitchcock ever made and I can think of at least five better Hitchcock movies without even trying.

Last but not least E.T. I don't know what it is but it doesn't connect with me at all. Give me CE3K all day any day.

For me the obvious answer is Avatar.

shite story. Mediocre acting.

But damned if it wasn’t pretty, with great cinematography that was possibly the best application of 3D tech ever.

I haven’t seen Avatar, but I agree

Because this is the same opinion that every person in the universe has

These are movies that are the most overrated, not the ones that are hated.

Agree with poster that mentioned Heat too.

Which is precisely why it’s not the most overrated movie of all time. Most agree, pretty pictures, lame movie.
