Generation Kill and the first hour of Full Metal Jacket are somewhat accurate for the Marine Corps.

Maybe he’s trying to say Flat Patton. Rolled over by a tank?

What do ex-military think of The Outpost? Haven't seen that one mentioned.

Always thought there's was a bit more validity to Platoon than some want to admit, probably because of political bias. Always assumed FMJ's boot camp was certainly realistic, based on conversations (even during peacetime). SPR's first 45 minutes would be spot on, though I'm not ex-military. Do know one of the soldiers in the choppers from BHD (Kearth). Phenomenally cool dude.

Thanks to all that have served. You signed your life away for some period of time. That deserves blind respect.

The funny thing is they played the hate your guts card while every recruit tried not to frick up to please them. Also, the good cop/bad cop with Sr versus jr DI's cracks me up in retrospect. It was all a mindfrick.

Depends on the year and location but generally an accurate portrayal of COP life in Afghanistan IMHO.

Warfare.

I was in Ramadi with 2d MARDIV a year before the incident the movie is based on. Wild times in Al Anbar province.

As a submariner…. Das Boot

The diving scene in U571 is a pretty accurate depiction of the workflow to dive a ship

Gerald Butler had a modern sub movie with a couple accurate scenes in an otherwise bad movie

The satirical stereotypes of the different jobs/officers in Down Periscope were highly accurate lol

The Hunt For Red October

The book is hyper accurate

Recommend Red Storm Rising if you wanna see Clancy play out what WWIII would have been like in the 80’s

I presume you're talking about combat films because everyday life in the military during peacetime is mundane for the most part. Training, maintenance, end your shift, go home.

If you want war then probably Platoon for Vietnam Era and Blackhawk down for more modern warfare.

McHale's Navy.

I was in the Navy when The Hunt for Red October (the novel) came out. It was spot on. Clancy had it down pat.
