Figured this might get more traction on the M/TV board.
Check this out - on this date in 1965, I got my original contract for The Monkees pilot!
I was paid $600, with $400 per episode if picked up. It felt like big money then! Who knew this little paper would lead to all this?
Crazy how much times have changed.

Paltry sum when you see stars like the cast of "The Big Bang Theory" making $1M per episode and then collecting residuals on the reruns after the show was terminated.
Same for "Seinfeld". Jerry Seinfeld is a multi-millionaire just from that show alone and is reaping a fortune in reruns.

A new new Cadillac in 1965 started at $5,400. A normal car was around $2,600. The average salary in 1965 was $4,100 a year. So almost $21,000
a year would be a hell of a salary.

In 1965 you could fill up your tank and eat out for lunch with a $5 dollar bill, and still have change left over.

Jerry's net worth is north of a billion dollars, most of that from Seinfeld. He, Larry David, and George Shapiro had extraordinary rights and profit stakes in the show so their payout for syndication is a lot bigger than cast members from successful shows like Friends or Big Bang Theory.

That thing looks like a George Barris creation. He did the Batmobile and the hot rod for "The Munsters" if memory serves me correctly.

I was 13 in 65 and had my first "go to work and punch a clock job" and it paid a whopping $1.25 an hour. So a 40 hour week got me $50 and at the end of the month it came to $200.
I remember thinking if I could just make $2.50 and hour and wind up with $400 at the end of the month I'd be "Living Large".
Now, that $400 may cover the utility and water bill for most folks.
