Obviously it being without (at least heavy) Michael Mann involvement is a negative - and he is in his 80s now.
Difficult to imagine the last film was almost 20 years ago. Disappointing mainly because that was the reason he wasn't available to direct a potential "Gates of Fire" (Pressfield) film that, at one point, Clooney and Willis were interested in starring.
I agree this is a solid team, though. Assuming they are going to keep it period correct, it could be worth watching.

It’s funny this thread popped up today, because I just rewatched the movie last night for the first time in probably 15+ years. While I still enjoyed it I wasn’t prepared for it to feel as dated as it does.

I don't want another modern version of this. They need to go with the full 80s vibe and change the name to GTA: Vice City and they'll make a billion dollars.

I have been busy and missed this.
ETA: Ok, Miami Vice is my favorite tv show of all-time. Currently, there are no actors I can think of for Crockett and Tubbs. Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas or Farrell and Foxx, I just don't see who pulls off the roles. Gosling would be meh as Crockett, and please don't put Miles Teller in the role. For Tubbs, I miss Chadwick Boseman. Hold an open casting for a couple of unknowns.

I agree. Nobody really seems right. Find some unknowns for Crocket and Tubbs, and you can have some major actors play a few of the other parts.

Brolin could be a fun alternative
I guess Brolin might be a little up in age for the role, but he would be perfect otherwise. He's a big rougher around the edges, maybe.
Grok picked Gosling.
