He helped carry A Time to Kill.

And he took Reign of Fire from an awesome movie to a really fricking awesome movie.

His new movie "Mud" is supposed to be quite good.

did everyone not freak out when Ledger was confirmed as the Joker?

I trust Nolan.

I imagine the line was out the door to do a Nolan film. Surely he had his pick of just about anyone, which makes this choice kind of odd.

Could be a major hit or flop.

I think MM playing a role like this could be exactly what the doctor ordered regarding his career.

Don't think he's a bad actor at all. Just really had a bad run of type-cast/chick flicky roles that probably limited him.

A role like this might be good for fans of this genre, too...I hate seeing the same guys always in the same roles within certain genres.

We'll see...

MM has a couple of nice turns, Dazed and Confused, A Time to Kill, Tropic Thunder (I haven't seen Killer Joe) - with good direction and a good script, I think he can do really well.

This is not an Affleck/Labeouf situation where the actor can screw up otherwise good material.

Completely agree, and that was the case with Killer Joe.

When presented with material different from the typical rom-com schlock, MM has proven he can deliver good performances.

I kind of like McConaughey. Dude is pretty funny and I don't hate some of his drama roles. How to lose a guy in 10 days is one of the best chick flicks of all time.

McConaughey is reaching that age where surviving on looks alone isn't going to work much longer. He's got to start doing stuff that lets him ACT. Killer Joe was a good choice. I bet he gets great reviews for the super-skinny role he's currently doing. I'm curious to see what he brings to the table with Nolan.

when I go to McDonalds, I get treated like Matthew McConaughey

"alright, alright, alright! skinny guy is here"

that being said, I think he's awesome and I'm looking forward to this

Few people invade Donald Trump and John Mayers space as biggest living douche. But damn if McConneghey doesn't make a hard run at it
