the first half of LC was fantastic... then it got boring. quick.
Exactly. Each show has been more about the villain in terms to the quality. Because of the length, the villain has to be way more dynamic and interesting than a movie villain. Fisk and Kilgrave were INCREDIBLE villains. Their actors fleshed them out fully.
Movie villains rarely have much chance to be complete. Only Loki has really done that in the MCU (as Bucky was only really a villain in one movie, he doesn't count). Thanos' screen time has been less than any single villain so far.
LC dropped off the moment that they killed off Cottonmouth. He was a highly interesting villain. Diamondback was just a psycho.

Are the Defenders shows really part of the MCU? It seems like minimal references at best.
Technically, yes, just like Agents of Shield is.
They've decided, however, to encapsulate their universe into that section of New York, to keep the stories more at "street level". The Avengers are saving the planet; Jessica Jones is saving the small child at 1895 106th street.
So they make passing references (passing remarks about magical hammers, unbreakable shields and giant rage monsters), but that's it. Though rebuilding Harlem after Hulk and Abomination tore through it in the first Hulk movie is brought up a few times, if memory serves.

David Tennant was great. Great facial expressions, the eyes. He can carry a scene just by his expressions and facial features alone. Only episodes of the modern day Doctor Who I watch are his. His characters are very believable.
I'd be okay if they brought him back from the dead. He's a Loki-level villain.

i got bored with Luke Cage and never finished it
As did I, but I finished it. The ending still never made it a good show.
The problem is that all of these series are becoming formulaic. Brooding hero in the dark streets living a life in the shadows and having little to no exciting personality. DD and JJ worked, but Cage is NOT this character. Nor is IF. They should be a bit more outgoing and fun. The actor of Cage was very monotone the entire show, and he was awkward in many scenes. Plus they tamed his strength and powers on quite a few occasions to force story plots.
It appears IF is following this same failed strategy unfortunately. I hope this is all wrong, but I doubt it.

Just watched the first episode. Not bad. We'll see how this goes.

Two questions.
Does the Knight of Flowers have a convincing American accent?
Are the fight scenes well shot and choreographed?

1) I didn't notice a British accent, but I wasn't really thinking about it. So I'd say it's passable.
2) The few fight scenes were fine.

Nice.
Thanks for the info.

Marvel's movies are all formulaic too.

Binged the first 5 with early access. It was pretty boring. Pacing seems to be the main issue with these long form comic shows.

So far it captures the essence of the character really well.
I liked how he dispatched the security guards without really even touching them.

Agreed. I'm through two episodes, and it definitely drags on. I felt the same way about JJ and LC.

I don't know yet whether I like it overall one episode in, but I DO like his fighting style. It's creative and fun to watch.

I find it interesting that Danny being hit is what triggers the Iron Fist.

4 episodes in and I'm liking it so far. Want to see more of his childhood training though.

That fight scene in episode 4 though. :o

99.9% of all movies are formulaic.
How often does anyone see anything anymore and go "Holy shite! I didn't see that coming! I've never seen anything like it!"?
I feel like if you've watched enough movies you've essentially seen it all at this point.
What was even the last innovation in story telling? Movie wise it's probably timelines that aren't linear but it's not like that hadn't already been done in books.

In episode 7 and I like this a lot better than Luke Cage or Jessica Jones.
