Could you melt any harder? They ended up looking at both men and women. Over 70 directors were checked.

Are you really going cry about a movie that will end up being essentially a cross between Jason Bourne and Atomic Blonde?

How is this melting?

I’ll melt only if Romanoff is the sole Black Widow in this film.

Spider-Woman is long overdue and this is a perfect film to introduce her. Have Lana Parilla (Regina Mills) play her.

The move caps off a search that lasted over half a year as the studio met with over 70 directors in order to find its ideal candidate. A female filmmaker was the priority even as the search stalled at one point and the studio looked at male helmers.

This is gonna suck big time.

Hopefully they don't go to girl power and all with it, and just make a good movie, and i have confidence they'll do that. Black Widow is a bad arse. I've got no problem with her kicking arse in this fantasy world. I said it earlier, i do hope there's some other known Marvel characters in a supporting role. Would be awesome if Hawkeye was in it, as well as Fury and Coulson. I don't think they would need to CGI them to a time period right before the Avengers.
I don't think i want to see an origin story of how she became Black Widow. Maybe have flashbacks to parts of it during this film, but i don't want that to be the main theme. Would rather see a movie about her route to becoming a member of Shield. Start off as an enemy and turn to the good side towards the end.

I'll definitely see it regardless. It'll probably be more along the lines of a Dr. Strange/Ant-Man box office, maybe less, but it will be successful b/c we have no reason to doubt Marvel.

I'm not sure why taking their time selecting a director is a bad thing. I haven't seen any of Shortland's movies but they seem to be well regarded by critics. Somersault, Lore, The Berlin Syndrome

Also not sure why Feige and Marvel haven't earned the benefit of the doubt yet. He's the guy who somehow knew that the Russo Bros were a perfect for Marvel even though their only major credits before Winter Soldier were You Me and Dupree along with TV work on Arrested Development and Community.

Seemed they took more time to find a female director. Why did they want a female director?

Hes done great. I'll take a wait and see approach given the "female director priority" motion.

Its still Disney at the end of the day.

They looked at over 70 people, both men and women.

Why is preferring to have a woman direct a film about a female assassin a negative? A female driven perspective for a movie about a female spy shouldn't be a problem.

You mean the company that has been crushing the box office the last 10-15 years? OH NOES!!!

Didn’t they just make a Black Widow stand alone movie?

Except it was called Red Sparrow and stared Jenifer Lawrence.

Black Widow isn’t going to be able to carry a movie in the MEU. She needs a darker setting.

Agreed - she'd need more of the Netflix shows for the feel than the movies feel. They're too bright for her type of story.

A Black Widow story in the same atmosphere as The Dark Knight would be pretty damn epic.

Her paired with Winter Soldier would be the way to go. They were together for a time in the comics. Have them uncover past secrets, go back to Russia, the whole globe trotting thing would work

She even says to Bucky in Civil War, "At least remember me." There's no positive interaction between them in Winter Soldier to garner that comment, so it implies something from her days as a Soviet spy.

I never said it dictates the ultimate outcome as I cant predict the future, but why can't a male direct a female spy movie? Why was a female preferred? Why was that specifically leaked when it came to selecting a director?

Disney has had good movies and bad movies. This movie wouldn't make or break what's been done in the marvel franchise overall.

Do you just assume every Disney production is great because of the record you just posted?

I think if they were going to do a Black Widow movie they should have done it by now. I think ScarJo is losing the pop off her fastball in that the movie going public seems to have put her in the "we love her as a supporting actress but hate her as a lead" category.

Yeah, I think if they had released the Black Widow movie in Phase Two around the same time as Iron Man 3, it would've landed better than it will now.

Then again, Marvel has proved conventional wisdom wrong before, so I'm willing to give it a shot in theatres. Plus, I don't dislike the character.
