Deja Vu is an underrated Denzel action flick

Deja Vu is a really fun movie that was refreshing to me because I actually didn't think Denzel took the whole thing over. Paula Patton, Val Killer, Adam Goldberg, and Jim Caveziel all carried their own weight.

Man on Fire is a fantastic movie because of the stylization and music, but to me Denzel's performance is just the standard "badass" that he's done many other times. Training Day was a lot of badass Denzel but he created a character that none of his other performances can match. It wasn't just charisma or swagger, that character had depth and mystery that none of his other characters have had. That Oscar was the right pick

The best line in the movie wasn’t said by Creasy, it was said by Walken -

“Creasy’s art is death, and he’s about to paint his masterpiece!”

Having recently rewatched Training Day, Denzel deserves all the accolades. Its a Tour De Force with nuance. Hawke is a wet blanket (not his fault, his role in the movie) but Denzel owns the screen. That's why he won. I can see the argument for Man on Fire but he doesn't own every scene like in Training Day. Remember that scene where that girl was getting raped? Does anyone remember Ethan Hawke beating up the perps? No, you remember. Denzel standing on the sidelines not saying a word smoking a cig. It's his bigger than life John Wayne movie. Meaning he's almost bigger than the movie. He is the entire movie like many John Wayne movies.

Training Day is a top five favorite movie for me. Man On Fire is a good Denzel movie, like The Equalizer, The Book Of Eli or 2 Guns. But Training Day is a different thing altogether. It's the rare movie that I can watch over and over and it still seems fresh. And I thought Ethan Hawke held his own pretty well. The bit performers stand out as well, with Smiley, Tuco and them.

ok. But i watched the movie

Was Denzel Washington's character in Book of Eli blind? Yes. Unless you're particularly observant it's not outright apparent that he's blind when watching the first time until the very end of the movie when the camera zooms in and you can see his eyes are clouded.

He should have won an Oscar for Malcolm X, not “Training Day”.

More of you fricks need to watch Glory, powerful movie and his performance of Tripp won an Oscar for a reason. Note Morgan Freeman also calls his role in Glory as Sgt Rawlings his best role.

I don't own a copy of Man on Fire, so any time it's on cable I watch it. Only see it once or maybe twice a year.

Decided to buy a copy of it. Found this double DVD on Amazon for $12.00!

John Goodman was great in it as well

I rewatched Unstoppable recently. That is the Denzel train movie with Chris Pine. Also a lot of fun.

I love that movie. It’s probably my favorite DW movie. He was unstoppable.
