Desmond clearly had a wedding ring on before he disappeared....he did not have that ring on when he got off the plane.

yeah, I don't know what that means either. And to the other poster, it's not the writers fricking with the audience, because everything in this show is meant to be analyzed 1000 times.

There was nowhere for Desmond to go, the bathrooms were occupied.

Not that it has anything to do with this episode, but I remember getting ticked the first couple of years because almost every other episode was a Jack episode.

On the Lost wikipedia page, there's a list of every episode and what character is focused on. Those first few years, Jack blew every other character out of the water on number of episodes.

Well Jack (and Locke for that matter) were the only characters carrying the show in the beginning. All the other characters were running around the island like chickens with their heads cutoff.

Biased much?
In the beginning Sawyer was the thief who everyone had to fight with.

All Sawyer did really in Season 1 is sit on his arse, make smart arse comments, and was hardly helpful at all to the survivors and was quite a nuisance to everybody but Kate. Jack and Locke were carrying most the weight for the survivors in Season 1.

meh, i think people get a bit carried away with some of the "analyzing" that they do.

i mean shite. maybe the writers did not want jack and desmond speaking more than they did and the easiest way to keep them from talking is have desmond just not be in any more scenes.

who knows, maybe you are right and it is important.

i agree but i hope his wedding ring was not a mistake.

I also think it is a mystery (purposely) as to whether or not Des was "disappearing" from the plane or he just got up from his seat.

Elie is wearing all black and a grey scarf in "The Lie" from season 3. They are in a church or something, where the Lampost station is off island. Ben has all black too. Creepy, but I still trust Elie somehow.

I think the fact that Jack makes somewhat of a deal about Desmond disappearing on the plane is the writers' way of telling the audience that there is more to that scene than meets the eye. The wedding ring I think confirms that the scene was important. We did not even know how important the presence of the ring was at the time because everyone had assumed the Desmond was married (to Penny or someone else).

LOST has been known for hiding easter eggs along the way.

same here. i really can't see it being a mistake. but i am having trouble figuring out how something changed midflight. everyone else on the flight was different before the flight. it wasn't like in the middle of the flight suddenly everyone was different.

that is one reason i don't think he was "off" the plane at that point. most thought he was actually dead or not even there. but he obviously was when the plane landed.

Is it possible that there are two side flashes going on? One where good stuff happens and one where all hell breaks loose and nothing is as it is supposed to be?

Unfortunately I haven't watched each episode more than once from this season to determine if this is even possible.

After the comments about Desmond's wedding ring and the possibility that the actor just forgot to take off his ring, I checked to see if he is married in real life. He is, and has a son named.................................................................Esau.

Not only is Desmond actually Wallace, but he is MIB's father.

I think I stated it before, but I'm not sure. In regards to Desmond's apparent disappearance and reemergence from the plane.

I interpreted it this way. The sideways flash is volatile, dynamic, very non-linear, the dreaded Butterfly Effect (thanks Hot Tub Time Machine ). That "reality" is in constant flux, and events that happen on the island are having a direct causal relationship with events in the ATL (that's Alternate Time Line, not Hotlanta). Hence, why Des is there, then he isnt, he's wearing a ring, now he's not. Since Des is special and these time jumps have a very different effect on him, compared to everyone else, I think that everyone in the ATL perceives his presence quite differently.

at least that's what I'm sticking with

No, no, no. Wallace is Desmond's ring.

Today's date is 4/20. I wonder if we will see a 420 reference in tonight's episode.
