also
it's not that they publicly denied it being purgatory
they truly, completely changed the entire show after season 2 to AVOID this ending, which is how the show got so fricked up
and then after season 4, they completely changed the show up again
...only to have the original ending, with all of this superfluous bullshite that they never answered

Hitting the sack. Have fun with the thread, will check in the morning.
I admit I liked the episode. But that final scene during the credits really got to me. Without that, I would be happier. With it, I'm just mad. It was an obvious "F-You."

It is a brilliant idea for a television show, and I'm glad they stuck to the plan.
not really a brilliant idea.
Say it was a novel idea to put it a TV series format.
I'll also say the first 2 seasons of the show were brilliant in how they went about telling the story

sorry ot question but how did 6 feet under end... in four sentences or less?

What difference does it make what order they were in?
well if the island is real, jack lived a shorter life than others who had already been flashed in the emo-verse

namely, what the is the island?
It holds the spark of the afterlife, immortality.
Jack ensures immortality is saved. Therefore, what we are seeing in the purgatory timeline is the success of Jack unbeknownst to us until now.

For the record, I do think they were on the island then purgatory, but I also think the writers were being dicks ON PURPOSE TO frick WITH US, by tossing in Aaron as a baby, while no baby for Jin and Sun and the wreckage at the end.
As I said wayyyyyyyyyyyy back many posts ago, they wanted to create the buzz that Sopranos did. Which from this thread, they clearly did, the assholes.

AGREED FULLY
then they got away from it when everyone realized what the show was about, and they fricked it up in the process

So how much of season 6 did this altverse take up?
Seems like a dick move to make purgatory/altverse be such an important part of the last season rather than resolve questions/storylines.
Rather than resolve actual shite lets just give the audience a twist.
It was brilliant thats why. If we didn't spend that much time in it we wouldn't have as much emotional resonance with it.

For those wondering how Desmond got home:
Ben "You can start by helping him (Desmond) get home"
Hurly "How? People can't leave the island"
Ben "Those were Jacobs rules"
Pretty clear what happened next.
Also, the episode ENDED when the "Lost" came on the screen. The credits were just a tribute of sorts. How is that hard to understand?

when 2 immortals die, i don't know if it holds the spark of immortality
especially considering hurley and ben have to die to make it to purgatory

namely, what the frick is the island?
This is my biggest gripe. If the island was just an interesting/bazar place as a setting for the show (as it was for the first couple seasons) the finale would be really good.
But the showrunners turned the island into the most importnant character for 3 seasons then dropped the ball and basically left it a meaningless place. Really terrible way to handle it.

What happened to Mike and Walt?
What about Whitmore?
The Dharma Initiative?
The couple that stole the diamonds.
Anna the cop.
None of these are really unanswered questions. Ana Lucia according to Desmond wasn't ready, and there is little doubt in my mind that Nikki and Paulo are in hell.

Its where the light is. The essence of life. This has been explained. What else do you want?

But how the hell does Hurley do that? He doesn't have any kind of special abilities as it was implied that Jacob has.

aren't they supposed to be immortal?
There's nothing to say that Hurley and Ben didn't die 15,000 years later. As Christian said, time is meaningless in the afterlife.

the emotional resonance was with the early seasons
hence, why in this finale, the emotional resonance was found WITH FLASHBACKS TO EARLIER PARTS OF THE SHOW
the last 1/3 of lost didn't create any new resonance. it had to steal the emotions of the show when it was good
hence why i call it the emo-verse (i discuss this in the nega-lost thread, as i discussed it during the show)
