Anyone else find it hard to believe the eels consumed the fuel of every Jupiter except for the one in the desert? As far as we know, the Jupiter 2 was the only one that made a water (or more specifically, ice) landing

The planetoid was in its ice age when the ships landed. Don’s ship landed in an arid area. We didn’t see the other ships land but the climate was colder and icier when they landed. By the time we saw the other ships, the climate had changed.

the character of Dr. Smith

I'm assuming in season two they will begin referring to her as June and we lose the Dr. Smith reference.

I was wondering the same thing. It won't be Lost in Space without Dr. Smith. Maybe since they can't be sure who the hell she really is, they'll just keep calling her Dr. Smith.

She gave her sister's name to them as her own. If they pull up the records, they'll see that she isn't the woman she claims to be. They may continue to call her Dr. Smith just because they won't know her real name or believe any other name that she gives them.

She’s listed in the ship’s registry as her sister Jessica Harris, which is a play on the original Dr. Smith’s real name, Jonathan Harris. Maybe that’s the connection.

I finished yesterday as well. I thought the series steadily improved throughout the year, except that the final episode was kind of a mess. It almost seemed like they just said "let's see how many deadly situations, cliff hangers and "surprises" we can fit into one episode. It was just too busy and didn't flow. I did enjoy the last scene though. Hopefully if they do another season that will be an interesting starting point.

Strangely, I thought that, over the course of the whole season, the Dr. Smith story-line was one of the weaker ones. It just seemed like they didn't really know what direction to go with her, almost like her story-line was a late insertion into the plot or an afterthought.

I finished it up last night, a few thoughts...

-The kid playing Will Robinson isn't that good of an actor (not compared to everyone else on the show), they shouldn't focus on him (and they didn't really, the show had far more of an ensemble feel).

-In the beginning I was starting to feel like Will's character was going to be another "Coral" but he eventually evened out.

-Posey's Dr. Smith is a fricking fantastic character!!! Whoever is writing her should put some time into scripting the Joker for the next Batman movie. I love when a character's motivations are 3-4 moves ahead like this (and written well).

-The effects were spot on.

-Some of the stories had a little too much drama going on. The tanker-thing-with-the-exploding-ground-and-loose-cable-and-guy-pinned-under-the-tank-but-the-tank-is-lying-on-a-rock-that-punctured-it-but-is-also-keeping-the-rupture-plugged-so-they-can't-move-it-without-losing-all-the-fuel-but-the-guy-will-die-if-they-don't-move-it-and-then-he-ends-up-dying-anyway-after-they-move-it... -whew!-

Just write "Ooops! Looks like eels are in this tank as well" have them turn around and go home then have some accident that endangers (then kills) surfer dude.

So I am guessing the robot for subsequent seasons will be a new one that has "grown up" as part of the ship (taking the egg-thing to be an actual egg).

tl-dr; definitely worth the binge!

In the original series, he was on board to sabotage the mission, and was never supposed to take off with the Robinsons. He wanted to get back to Earth as badly as they did. Posey's Dr. Smith had completely different intentions. I understood her motivations, but her behavior was all over the place. Her character was written as a full-on sociopath with little to no redeeming characteristics. Now that the Robinsons are on to her, I think her behavior in the second season will have to change somewhat.

Yea. I’d love to see a Jamie Lannister like redemption arc for her. But I kinda doubt these writers are up to accomplishing something like that.

Me too. She can still be weaselly and manipulative, but she needs to be less evil, and she needs to develop some sort of relationship with Will.

Yea, it shouldn't take long before they figure out she's not a physicist like her sister.

I think, at best, they'll realize that they have a mentally ill criminal on board who struggles with empathy to the point where she can never really maintain a care for the well being of others.

The original Smith had his moments where he cared about the Robinsons, but he could revert to greed and self-preservation at the drop of a hat.

It's science fiction.

Did you watch Star Trek, then start screaming how teleporters and replicators should never work?

Do you watch Star Wars and talk about how the Force is bullshite?

I think her final act of the show (regarding John) is a hint that this is the plan.

Based on a fantasy series. The original series ended with characters in papier mache dragon costumes and talking carrots. If this series was 100% hard science, it wouldn't be Lost in Space.

BTW, the producers did consult with NASA on the current series. They made some attempt to inject some real space travel science into it.

Posted in the other thread, really enjoyed the season. It was well done. I think they missed a couple opportunities in the final episode for some interactions between the family and the Robot to help jog his memory that would have been good. Will should have seen the hand print in the cave and told him he was part of the family and the whole Robinson's stick together stuff instead of just calling him his friend. There was a lot more they could have done to give the robot some struggle that they just kind of sped through. Overall the season was awesome though.

SPOILER:

I agree. I thought the same thing when they revealed that it was Smith that saved John.
