I've watched the first two episodes and like it so far. I also think it didn't start off strong, but it never showed me any signs that it would be a bomb. I am usually pretty picky when it comes the science being correct/believable, so this was my biggest worry as I watched because I knew if they started just doing some Armageddon-Michael Bay-Physics, the show would be doomed from that moment forward. I also realize where this show is coming from, and its background enough to give it some breathing room.. compared to say, what I would expect out of Nolan film. I never watched the original and don't remember the 90's movie, but I'm guessing this series is more focused on character development through the Robinson family?
I thought the SFX were top notch, as well as the score(which was the first thing I really liked and how it sounded so much like John Williams ( I had no idea until today he was involved with original.) I think as long as the writing turns out to be fine for this series it will be great, cause Captain Flint and Parker Posey can both carry things on their own if need be.

I'm finishing up episode 5 now. I really like it so far. After professor umbridge and joffry baratheon Dr. Smith is becoming one of my most hated characters of all time

I'm not sure if your rant was meant to be a joke or you're genuinely retarded.

I didn't care for the first half of the season but thought it found it's groove on the back end.
Much of my disconnect initially was due to having watched the original series in reruns and identifying specific behaviors with each of the main characters that did not translate to this version.
Don West went from being an all-American military pilot to a smuggler and opportunist and I didn't care for the transition.
John and Maureen Robinson were radically altered as well. Once I accepted the characters for who they were in this version I was more than pleased with the way it played out.
They could loose the kid playing Will though.

I finished it off. I was different from others in I thought the 2nd half of the season dragged a bit. Got tired of the 'how will they get out of this one' every week. I liked the flashbacks, but thought they should have used them more, like LOST. It would have brought more to the story and background and enabled them to cut some of the boring stuff. Like Posey's Dr. Smith character. Overall, it was just ok. The ending gives them somewhere to go with it and I hope it gets better.
I wonder if there is a robot planet where they have ended up, or if we will see the creators of the robots?

It will be interesting to see how that develops.
When the robot drew a picture of what Will thought was the number eight, and we later discover it was possibly a depiction of his home world, the robot describes it as "danger".

Yeah. Not sure if that is the Robot's home system or if it's the home to some other race. Possibly a race that he was trying to keep the interstellar drive away from.

You'd have hated the original series. That is literally how they ended each episode.

That was some good stuff. Lost in Space and Batman used the cliff hanger device very well despite everyone knowing they would slip out of it a week later.

I’m through 5 episodes as well. I’m still enjoying it. Characterization is pretty good. The only thing that still bugs me some is people going off roaming willy nilly for whatever reason pops into their heads. That and nobody briefs anybody on anything.

Your review is pretty much where I stand. I thoroughly enjoyed it! Parker Posey was incredible in it. I actually wanted to punch her in the face which is a rare thing for me to feel when watching a show. I kinda cheered on her twisting and pulling on others' emotions.

Was not a big fan of the original series. Seems like TBS showed reruns of it back in the early 80's.

They were all trained by the same scientists that Prometheus and Covenant used.

I’m a big fan of Parker Posey, but I really feel that her character needs something of a reboot in season 2. I can deal with Dr. Smith being self-centered, cowardly, and even manipulative to a degree, but I don’t like that she is portrayed as being too evil. At some point, she needs to develop some sort of connection with Will. That was key to the original series.

I figured that this will HAVE to happen next season.

Finished it this afternoon. It was solid. I will not call it great but it was good and I would certainly watch season 2

I think it's more due to the writing than to Posey.
For me, it's just that she seems to be all over the place. She lets the mechanics in the escape ship, then later on steals the flare gun and leaves the guy for no real reason. It was really only luck that the Robinson vehicle came along when it did. The odds were that she would have been safer with the guy and the injured girl.
A good portion of the "evil" stuff she does doesn't really have a rhyme or reason to it. The self preservation stuff makes sense but sometimes she just does stuff seemingly for the hell of it.
I've kind of marked it down to her being some special type of crazy - some strange manic depressive type thing but with her swinging between normal and "evil" from some imbalance or something.

Anyone else find it hard to believe the eels consumed the fuel of every Jupiter except for the one in the desert? As far as we know, the Jupiter 2 was the only one that made a water (or more specifically, ice) landing.

I agree 100% that it’s more about the way the character of Dr. Smith is written than how Parker Posey portrays her. PP is an extremely underrated actress and she’s probably doing the best she can to make Dr. Smith at least somewhat sympathetic. There are times where she seems to genuinely connect with the Robinsons, particularly Will. I just hope that the writers explore that relationship more in the next season. The look on Smith’s face when Will says “I care about what happens to you” lets you know that she isn’t incapable of feeling. Also, when she was about to launch the escape pod and had a change of heart after realizing the Robinsons would be trapped on the planet and die there. Her behavior is all over the place.
