They really made her husband a cartoon caricature of the impotent inattentive husband and father. A bomb could go off and he wouldn't look up from the newspaper or wake up from his nap.

Yeah. Made it out like it was his fault she's a cheater. Pure nonsense.

The husband (I think it’s him at least) is a professor at LSU.

This seems like projecting.

She didn't end up cheating because she knew she had a great life with her husband and kids. She saw him asleep on the chair with their kid sleeping on his lap and realized she was being an idiot.

This.

She's fine as frog hair though - especially early seasons.

You are correct. Joe Chrest plays Ted Wheeler and teaches Acting at LSU. By all accounts he's a great guy and is beloved on the Stranger Things set. From what I can tell from the few interviews I've seen or read he loves playing the character other then wishing he didn't have to keep an 80's style haircut.

They did, and I think the 80's was kind of the transition period where fathers started being a little more involved in the family dynamic. I certainly had a couple of friends growing up whose fathers were a lot like Mr. Wheeler. Neither were as clueless as Mr. Wheeler was portrayed, but I certainly never saw them at little league games, the never picked us up from practice, never showed any affection towards their spouse, etc.
