Ghoulies is more funny than anything else, but usually has T&A.
The Return of the living dead movies were funny.
The gate was one I used to watch a lot as a kid because of HBO. Funny scenes, but also a dark movie.

Creepshow would be good. It's a kid narrating a story to Debbie Harry.
Also the twilight zone and tales from the saenger
Dark side movies aren't bad.

I showed my kids Goonies, thinking it was pretty tame. I'd forgotten though, just how much cursing was in it. Had some explaining to do to the wife.
My kids were not big horror fans but they yawned at Poltergeist, other than the clown doll scene.

I remember this one being marketed pretty heavily as a kids movie - toys, coloring books, the whole nine yards.
The only thing that would give me pause is the Santa story, because my son still believes.

Gremlins is still one of my favorites even as an adult. So many funny scenes.

Don't ever show him Trilogy of terror, he will be petrified of walking on the floor and under any bed/table/etc
Don't do it, i'm still scarred from that flick

quote:how did he take the story of phoebe's dad dressing up as santa and getting stuck in the chimney and decomposing? was he more upset about the no santa or the dead father?
Let my 7yo son watch Gremlins
ETA: prediction. OP overdoes it with the scary movies and the 7 year old sleeps with him for a month

I love scaring the shite out of my kids
I watched everything under the sun that came on HBO and my old cousin would show me by the time I was 10.
It’s all part of the experience
