Damn, what a ride

It took me a while to get used to the Clarice accent, but I got over it. The swerve at the end was a nice touch with the FBI crew going to the wrong house, while Clarice was at the correct one accidentally.

Why was there such a large gap between SotL and Hannibal?

Does the rest of the series live up to the first movie?

Because they had to wait for Thomas Harris to compete the book.

Hopkins' performance is very over the top and hammy in Hannibal but its an alright movie. Red Dragon is better.

IMO yes, except it sucks when Foster gets replaced.

Hannibal wasn’t great but was entertaining
Red Dragon is pretty darn good.
Hannibal Rising sucked

It always blows my mind when people haven’t seen movies like this, but man I’m not going to lie it would be awesome to watch a movie like this or Shawshank or even classic comedies like Blazing Saddles or something for the first time at my current age, so I’m kind of jealous that you got to experience that so many years after it came out

Did it feel dated to you? That’s one I’ve felt whole still great because the story is so compelling and still feels current, maybe didn’t age quite as well as a film as some others.

For example even Shawshank, just three years later and everything about it feels much more modern and timeless from the performances (like someone else said Lector can seem a bit over the top and Clarice’s accent is overwhelming), to the actual look of the film itself. It just looks cleaner somehow.

Silence of the Lambs and Red Dragon are the best.

I'm in the minority but I thought SotL was average, at best. I never bought into Hannibal Lecter being dangerous or menacing. He seemed clownish to me. (And if y'all think Hopkins is hammy in Hannibal, holy hell, he must be bad. Because when I watched SotL all I could think was, "He's hamming it up like he's in a school production").

I don't know many people from West Virginia, so I had nothing to compare it to, and wasn't particularly bothered.

I re-watch Manhunter whenever it shows up. It had the best of the Michael Mann style, and a great soundtrack. Plus Brian Cox did a great, more nuanced Lecter, imo.
