Funai, a Japanese company, claims to be the only VCR manufacturer left in the world and said it will cease production on the VCR by the end of July.

Funai first began manufacturing VCRs in 1983.

The company said it only sold 750,000 units last year and found it was becoming harder to find the parts to make them.

Do many of you still have a collection of VHS? I held on to mine for a while but could never be bothered to hook up my VCR, and my nostalgia can't get over how they look.

VHS porn holds a special place in my heart somewhere between scrambled cable porn and HD internet porn.

What was so amazing is that you could actually FREEZE the movie when a tit came on screen!

I still have an extensive collection of VHS's in their original clamshell cases, nearly all of them Disney full length cartoons and live action movies.

There was this thing you could do on the scrambled channels on your cable box.

If you hit the channel and stuck a penny in the up button and a penny in the down button...the scrambled would go clear and suddenly you had American Triple Ecstasy.

I have almost every UGA football game from 2001-2009 recorded on VHS. That was my thing man...every week I'd make SURE that I had my vcr set to record. This was obviously well before DVR.

I would imagine a lot of them are bought for kids. My kids still have tons of disney movies on tape. Though we don't have one anymore, I can see why someone would spend $30 to have one for thier kids

If you have a VHS player, you need to make sure you have one of these.

Say what you want about VCR, but you could actually rewind and fast forward and always hit the mark you were intending to hit.

Seeking now is so much of a skill in digital hard media, and it is almost impossible during streaming. In fact it gets to be a pain in the butt.

Who here had a tape rewinder?

Funai
I have a SD DVR with a DVD burner that's labeled Magnavox but is actually Funai. I use it a bit and it upconverts to 1080p.

I have a VHS/DVD combo that's not being used. I know I have a VHS cassette of our high school football championship and I'm sure I have some movies and other recordings packed. My favorite VCR was a Sony 4-head HiFi with a jog/shuttle wheel on the remote and VCR.

The only thing I wasn't happy with the remote was the Record button (rather two buttons). You had to press to buttons simultaneously to record because there was a plastic post between them.

I have 2 working vcrs and a collection of late 80s and 90s movies. One is set up in the guest room to a cheap flat screen that doesn't have ports for hdmi or usb, so the vcr gives some options. The other is set up just to be nostalgic, to a really old tv (working) that has knobs for changing channels and fine tuning.
