I just started episode two. Great documentary so far. Just please tell me they take this thing all the way up to Florida Georgia Line when country music really hit it's stride.

They have a full two hours coming up. It's episode 9, I believe. They do mix in a little Luke Bryan to help fill it out. It's titled C'mon.
I am not at all being truthful.

Quick review: If you're looking to get a deep dive into the history and stories behind the acts and songs that have dominated the country charts, that is really not the focus of this series. Artists like George Strait, Alan Jackson, anyone from the 2000s forward that have been on country radio are either glossed over or ignored completely. In fact, the series pretty much stops pre-2000.
This is really the story of music that developed into and became what is now known as the Americana genre, which many would argue is still "true" country music. Singer/songwriter based tunes (i.e.: not manufactured formulaic Nashville music) not really in the pop genre.
Very interesting and well-done. Anyone who appreciates and enjoys music should check it out even if "country music" isn't your thing. Like I mentioned, it really isn't about what most people categorize as country.

I’ve enjoyed it. I find it a bit apologetic though for what today’s country has become. They pretty much stop with Garth and really do gloss over George Strait. Impossible to include everyone though.
Many artists were careful to not shite on today’s pop country or country radio. Sort of making the point that change has always been the case and country has lost its way at times.
They did throw a pic of Sturgill up there. But never mentioned him. Never said “bro country” either. Maybe Sturgill being the only pic used is thumbing the nose at bro country?

A few disjointed thoughts of mine:
Marty Stewart: I’ve never followed him, and when he and Travis Tritt were touring I thought of him as a poser, a precursor to Bro Country. I couldn’t have been more wrong in my ignorance. He has had one hell of a career and he BLEEDS my favored Old Country.
Where You’ve been- heart wrenching. I didn’t know that was based off her husbands grandma.
Vince Gil at George Jones’ memorial- Lump in my throat for the guy. Love that song but seeing his emotion just wrecked me. I think Jamey Johnson was next to Garth in the audience.
My favorite episodes were the Outlaw, 80s, and the 60s.
What a fine series. I’m going to have to give Bluegrass a go... I’ve never gone down that path.

Yeah, Stuart seems to be one of those guy who was on the scene for a lot of significant events.
First time I saw him, I didn't even know his name. He was Johnny Cash's guitar player when Cash appeared on Saturday Night Live.

I’m two episodes in. My favorite parts were learning about the legendary Jimmie Rodgers, and the badass Maybelle Carter. Also loved Rose Maddox. Sara Carter seemed wild as hell. Man these women seemed like they didn’t give a frick.
It’s crazy how much you can hear like Hank and Waylon in the very beginning stages of country music.
My only complaint so far is Rosanne Cash. Is she annoying anyone else? It’s like, instead of just talking about the music, she is saying a bunch of nonsense trying to sound intelligent.

I thought he was being a huge puss. Tremendous talent, but a bit too emotional.
Funny hearing Garth Brooks being lauded for all of his love songs knowing he ditched his first wife for Tricia Yearwood.
I always believed that Garth, Faith, and Shanaia ushered in the pop era of country. Ruining the neo-traditionalist sound that was so prevalent with Strait, Reba, Randy, Clint, etc.
nonetheless, Garth's contribution to the popularity of CM is laudable.

Stuart got so much air time because he had a front row seat through the entire evolution of country music having gotten in the business at such a young age and the legends he played with. At least that's my take.
Totally agree about a newfound respect for the guy as I remember the "No Hats" tour and thinking this poser isn't country. Wow, was I wrong. Although, he does admit in the end, he let the fame get to him and he kinda sold out and needed to redirect his career back to being about the music.

To be honest, I thought that every Country "Star" post-70's was a poser in a cowboy hat. This series has given me a lot of respect for a lot of these artists.

oh I'm not disputing his talent. but his music- his ballads- are too emotional for me. In his interview he commented on how much music moves him and how much he likes to be "moved". So I think its a fair assessment to say he's emotional. All part of what makes him the musician he is.
I felt the same way about "Where have you been". Beautiful song, but damn man, I don't want to feel suicidal after listening to it.
I'd rather hear Vince Gill play, then listen to his lyrics. JMO. Not a slight to his ability.

I saw Marty Stuart play at Double Decker in Oxford about 10-15 years ago. He can play the shite out of a mandolin. I walked away very impressed with his talent as a musician when I think all I really knew him from was a couple of the songs with Travis Tritt in the 90s
