Justified is so much better than breaking bad. Honestly justified and the Narcos Mexico series is my top ones.

It always cracked me up that Michael Rapaport was so bad in season 5, that the writers were like “we hear you fans” and went out and got Sam Elliot and Mary Steenburgen for the final season.

was, but the source material was just a short story. I don’t remember the details of the short story but you’ve gotta give credit to the Justified writers for 90% of the series.
The main premise is based on the short story: Raylan Givens is sent back to his hometown to help bring down a criminal he grew up with.
But a lot of characters and situations are taken from other Leonard works and novels, including 2 novels featuring Raylan: the opening scene of the series is taken from the climax of the novel "Pronto".
The most important rule in the writer's room of Justified was: when developing a script, you must ask yourself "What would Elmore do?"

I’d put Mr. Inbetween into this mix.

Ok 8 eps in now. It's growing on me more and more, mainly because of how good Olyphant is. The Chief is great too. And now with Boyd back out plus his dad, I know this is going to ramp up. Plus, I enjoy seeing these guys from other shows pop up here like Deadwood Dan and Lost etc.

You're about to be introduced to two of some of my favorite recurring characters in Wynn Duffy & Judge Reardon.
Similar to Boyd's character, Duffy was originally supposed to die that first season, but the writers just couldn't do it.

I was wondering about that and thought it night be a Jesse Pinkman situation with Boyd. So he was going to be a one season and done guy? Talk about changing Goggins life.

I liked Justified quite a bit, but one of my pet peeves is when a show is supposed to occur someplace like the hollers of Kentucky, but is obviously filmed entirely in Southern California.

So the pilot episode is roughly based on the short story "Fire in the Hole" by Elmore Leonard (the opening Miami scene is taken from a different piece), and Boyd dies in that short story. The writers of the show originally intended on following that story with having Boyd die at the end of the episode, but they were so blown away by the chemistry of Raylan and Boyd that they decided that they had to keep him around. So originally Boyd wasn't even supposed to make it past the pilot episode.

Crazy how that can completely make or break a show. My dad worked on Django with him and said he was the coolest actor he's met in all the years he was driving for the movies/TV shows in 20 years.
