5 was the worst but it had this absolutely incredible scene where Rocky is having a nostalgic flashback remembering Mick giving him advice and a necklace to remember him by.

The original Rocky is a great great movie. The rest are parodies of themselves but can be entertaining. They all have good moments but don’t touch the original. It’s a romance movie, however awkward that it may seem. That’s what makes it great.

Because the original movie is not a boxing movie.
It's a love story set around a street thug and his moonlighting as a boxer.
After the Oscar winner, Rocky just became about boxing...no surprise no Rocky sequel was ever nominated for an Academy Award.
Rocky would never have won Best Picture if it was just about boxing. Boxing was the ancillary backdrop to the story of a loser and a pet shop girl.

Rocky 2 is my favorite.
Also I think Mick is a user. Never gave two shits about Rocky until he received the title shot, then set up Rocky with has-beens to keep Rocky on top and keep the paychecks coming.

Nah, he was just protecting him. The beating he got from Creed (both fights) should've killed him.

That's part of why the original is so good. Characters like Mick have that depth to them.
That depth goes out the window in later movies. Don't get me wrong, I like the cheese in Rocky 4, but the characters all get simpler.
Mick protecting Rocky's belt...in a lot of ways, that's just the smart thing for Rocky. He literally gets beaten into brain damage when Mick stops protecting him. Keeping the money rolling, that was also smart.

Rocky II had me fist pumping in the air. He did it, he did it!
Rocky III had me hating Mr. T. So glad Rocky got his revenge and the Mick stuff hit me in the feels. Love the bond between Rock and Apollo as I know it’s central to the most recent films.
Rocky IV had me wanting to join the military and I love the emergence of computers in the film as they came about in society. Great fight sequence at the end. Love the political undertone. Rocky is a MACHINE! Dude has more heart and grit than anyone.
Rocky V wasn’t as bad as the world says. It wasn’t like the others, but not a dud.
The training montages really get me pumped up. Makes me want to get into boxing... or at least get a speed bag

I think my favorite scene out of the whole series is Pauli’s letting rocky throw down on the cow meat toughening up his hands

The biggest problem with Rocky V isn't that it was a bad movie (not saying it was good either). The issue was that for 20 years it was the way the Rocky saga ended.
If you can binge the series and that's just 2 hours in the middle with 3 more Rocky movies to follow it isn't so bad.

I hated that scene because Mick looked like he was 30 years older than he was when he died.

As much as I don’t like Rocky five and I hated that they busted him back down to the old hood and made him dirt poor but that in fight between him and Tommy was fricking awesome.
