I just started watching this for the first time.
The episodes I've seen are enjoyable enough I guess. I assume it gets better though.
Some aspects of the show seem odd to me. Like having a crew member who's a direct descendent of Khan, and her last name is Noonien-Singh. And she's serving on the Enterprise. Everyone knows she's related to Khan. So when the episode Space Seed from TOS happens, no one stopped and said "Wait, we had a security chief with the last name Noonien-Singh. I think she's your great-great-great granddaughter. Small world, huh?"
And the 1st officer whose name I can't remember, she comes from a species that is banned from the Federation. She admits this, and everyone just kind of shrugs their shoulders and forgets about it the next episode.
Another thing that's bothering me is the interactions between the crew. There is very little deference to someone of a higher rank on the ship. Everyone talks to each other like they're all best buds.

Presuming it's not explained in a later episode, it's quite possible that they wanted to acclimate him to the future first... and before they could delve into more friendly banter, he turned out to be a twat and tried to take over.

They're genetically engineered (which is banned because of Khan and his ilk), but it's not the first time we've seen them do it (even though chronologically it would have happened first for her) - Doctor Bashir had a similar episode and arc on DS9.

Or they could have given her a different last name, and presented her as someone with a secret. And later on in the series its revealed she's related to Khan. But they did this in like the 3rd episode and made sure to repeat her last name a few times to drive the point home. I guess they expected the audience to be like "OH MY GOD! I RECOGNIZE THAT NAME! KKKHHHHAAAANNNNN!"
It just felt forced.

This week we get another theme episode. I've bitched and moaned as much as anyone about these genre homage stories, but I admit that I really enjoyed this one.

This season overall has been blah. Started off good with literally strange new world but fell off into theme of the week. I mean we have like 1/2 season to go basically and more than half this season has been to show off genres the actors seem to like.
You could put some of that in tng bc they had like 24 episodes per season. Here you have half that at best.

My favorite episodes were the 1st, 2nd and 8th, with an honorable mention for the soap opera episode. I wouldn’t call it a bad season, but it definitely wasn’t great.
She definitely looked better with that hairstyle and those gold painted nails. I figured that was coming when I read the description of the episode.

I just don’t think the season really went anywhere. I had gotten tired of the gimmick stuff especially with limited episodes in streaming seasons before this season which was even worse about that, but while there was never a true overriding theme or story of a season they did seem to touch on elements in a one or two prior episodes along with bringing up something related in others that came to a head or played a part in the finale giving it a sense of going somewhere.
I thought La'An was going to be featured in the finale as she was the only one dealing with stuff throughout the season and the Kirk stuff was just brought back up, but I guess she fixed herself enough at least temporarily in the fairy tell episode even though physical issues were brought up earlier that seemed to play into her genetics. We just got a future Kirk sad face when her name was mentioned, but that was it. Maybe they decided to push it to final season when dealing with what happens to the character. I guess that leaves open a good storyline for the final season as something has to happen for her to never be mentioned again.
But the finale could have been the season opener or any episode in between as it didn’t seem to contain a conclusion of anything from the season.
