Just stumbled across this trailer for a new show starting on Freevee next month.

As someone who loved the Joe Schmo Show, this is right up my alley. Can't figure out how they get the main character to buy in/not realize its fake; but looks pretty funny.

4 episodes in and it's entertaining. But I'm not convinced the main character is not in on it and is acting himself. Since it's set in L.A., it's easy enough to explain why James Marsden is there (and he is great in this), but I don't understand why they put Joe, the sanitation guy from Parks & Rec in there as well. Seems like the main character could've easily recognized him and figured out this was all fake.

I'm disappointed. I thought this was a thread about the 1995 film Jury Duty with Pauley Shore and Tia Carrere.

I mean, the whole point of the show is that everyone, except the main guy, is an actor. So, they had to hire.... actors.
Go look at the cast list on IMDb. Everyone, except the main guy, has multiple credits.

I didn't know Joe. They probably made sure the guy hadn't seen parks and rec before casting him.

As far as the main guy, I saw something where they said he applied for the opportunity to do a "reality show" on Craigslist. But he thinks it's a show showing behind the scenes of jury duty.

In LA county you can volunteer for jury duty, which is that he had to do.

We're 4 episodes in and really digging the show. When they were interviewing the remaining jurors after Tim fell and was taken to the hospital, and they all had these great interactions with Tim except for the lone non-actor. I was dying. That and the defense attorney's video hooked me.

Started watching…

“You were in the movie Sonic?

“Yeah”

“That wasn’t a good movie”

His only interaction was when Tim told him he was gonna go rub one out.

I saw an interview with James Marsden talking about the show.

He said it was in the script for for the actor to say that he was racist to get out of jury duty, but Ronald brought it up first and it was comedy gold.

Just binged all 6 episodes that are out - it’s hilarious. Still not convinced the main guy doesn’t think something’s up, but it’s funny either way. So many great characters. Marsden is gold in this.

This is great. They picked the main guy well, they must have done a good bit of background research on him because his ability to roll with the crazy makes everything work.

So many great characters on the show too. Even the bit players have been good. The influencer testimony was hilarious.

Marsden jumping on the bed was funny. Seems like a good dude. Helping his boy out.

However, this show is reality and scripted. Reality in regard to having only one guy not know it's fake. Scripted in regard to having Marsden jump on the bed when it's only actors in the scene. The Joe Schmo guy wasn't even in that scene so it wasn't necessary although it was funny.

It's like a very long format Candid Camera/Punked skit. But it's well cast and written so it's stayed funny the whole time.

I wasn't sure what the deal is with these people staying in character when he isn't around, but it kind of works now that we are a few episodes in.

He really got into the jury duty stuff. After it is all said and done, I would have been aggravated that I spent all those countless hours doing mindless jury duty stuff and found out it was fake.
