Miramax and Jon Hamm are teaming for a reboot of Fletch, the 1980s Chevy Chase movie, based on the original Gregory Mcdonald mystery novels.
Hamm will star as I.M.Fletcher, the hotshot investigative reporter played by Chase in the 1985 neo-noir comedy of the same name. Mcdonald’s 11 mystery books, the first of which was published in 1974, center on Fletcher as he juggles writing exposes while avoiding headaches caused by his two ex-wives.
Hamm will also produce the latest movie adaptation alongside manager and producer Connie Tavel. And Greg Mottola, known for comedies like Superbad and Arrested Development, is set to direct, with Zev Borow penning the screenplay and David List executive producing.
The Fletch property has long been in development as a remake or re-imagining, including with Warner Bros. and Relativity Studios. Miramax's film adaptation will be based on the second book in the Fletch series, Confess, Fletch.

I can see this working with Hamm. Fletch 1&2 are two of my all time favorite films. I pray they don't screw it up

I know one scene that will be missing.

Not getting my hopes up.
There have been abortive tries at a new Fletch movie for about 30 years, including at least one attempt by Kevin Smith with Jason Lee as Fletch.

If you want to put a famous franchise on hold, give it to Kevin Smith.

A solid choice for Fletch. Wish he was just a bit younger at this point though.

Can't wait to see who they cast as the Nazis from Natchez.

This is straight out of Bill Simmons brain
He loves fletch and he loves telling people he knows Jon Hamm

So that's why Brody mentions Fletch in Mallrats.

Fletch 1 & 2 don't need to be remade. They are classic comedies.

That’s great casting, actually. Jon Hamm has excellent comedic timing and has the whole trying to be cool and aloof yet clumsy, befuddled, and charming routine down pat.

Hamm has been misused in almost every movie he's been in. Considering his leading man looks and award winning performance as Don Draper, a successful Hollywood career seemed inevitable. But I think 30 Rock, Kimmy Schmidt, and Toast of London showed how he should be used. The man can be very funny in a dry but silly way. Which is perfect for Fletch. And while the Fletch movies are great, they aren't some untouchable cinematic marvels from people's childhoods like Ghostbusters or Robocop. I'm actually excited for this remake.

I like Hamm, but this is completely unnecessary. Chase's wit is what makes the movie. Hamm is a better than expected comedic actor. But he's not Chase...and Fletch IS Chase

I’m kind of shocked that Fletch Lives is so popular in here. I still watch the original every so often and have always loved it, but the sequel was just not good.
