Baby Driver was great, and he fit the role perfectly.

But I don’t want to see him playing Chevy Chase.

Keeping Up With the Joneses was really good and had phenomenal female talent.

A number of those franchises were in that state for a reason.

Going to blame Smith for Jon Peters being an incompetent frick who insisted on a giant mechanical spider fight and a “gay R2 D2 with attitude” sidekick for Braniac in a Superman movie?

Going to blame him for not making Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian, which was Tim Burton’s attempt to keep a sequel from happening?

It won't work. Fletch wasn't great because of the story or even the characters. It's just Chevy Chase being a smartass for 2 hours.

Does Hamm even have comedy chops? I'm too lazy to look at his IMDB page.

I must confess that I have never read any of the Fletch novels and only know of Fletch from watching Chevy.

So if the novel character is anything at all like the movie character I could see someone like Jason Sudekis pulling this off more than Hamm just simply of being more of a wise arse. But I really like Jon Hamm so I hope he pulls it off !

I'n my mind, movies and media died about 20 years ago. You re-boot Fletch? I formulaic piece of shite - which I loved at 13 BTW and can quote the whole script - and Hollywood can't come up with an original platform? How many times is this going to repeat?

He’s killed it on SNL several times. That being said, I bet this version of Fletch is less wacky. More like the books.

Who asked for this ?

My millennial nephews don't get Fletch. The humor just doesn't resonate. Dumb and Dumber, they get, but not Fletch.

Chevy Chase didn't age well, save for Caddhyshack, and I fear the same fate for Fletch.

You could’ve asked me for clarification before going on your tirade. I blame him for sitting on Fletch and Green Hornet. But you can pick your favorites since the guy has an entire Unrealized Projects category on Wikipedia.

But I think 30 Rock, Kimmy Schmidt, and Toast of London showed how he should be used. The man can be very funny in a dry but silly way. Which is perfect for Fletch. And while the Fletch movies are great, they aren't some untouchable cinematic marvels from people's childhoods like Ghostbusters or Robocop. I'm actually excited for this remake.

He cracked me up in Kimmy Schmidt when he represented himself during his own trial. I figure that's probably how he'll play it in a Fletch remake.

The Rewatchables had a conversation about this during their Fletch episode and they basically had the same mindset. Funny as hell for Gen Xers and older millennials, but if you're not from that age group you're just not going to get it.
