I saw Dr. No and From Russia With Love in the theaters, just to show my movie-going age.

Connery and Craig were best to me. And the character died with the last movie. Whatever they dredge up makes me no difference. I won’t go see it unless it’s a masterpiece. And very, very, very few Bond movies were masterpieces.

I have confidence the movie industry will frick this up badly. Bond is dead. Not looking forward to what abomination will follow.

No Time To Die was slated to come out in 2020. It was finally released last Fall. They’ve had plenty of time to figure out what to do for the next movie yet they’ll just kick the can down the road until 2025. They’ve done such a shite job managing this franchise over the last 10 years so I have zero expectations going forward.

Just watch old Bonds and be happy about what it once was because we’ll never see that quality again.

This could either mean a simple adjustment like we’ve seen when a new actor plays Bond or a total train wreck due to studio idiocy.

Or it means Bond will now be referred to as Mr. Bunt and the new villain will be none other than Scorpio

Nice that we’re going with the assumption that they didn’t frick Bond up with the Craig series.

Casino Royale was the last Bond film that actually stayed true to the character. Instead of continuing on that course, they turned him into an emotional and complex wreck of a person after the death of Vesper Lynd.

I would go young ladies man with fun action. Think Tom Holland or Taron Egerton.

the only way to make it work is to go retro - set the stories back in the 60-70s as intervening ops between the existing movies and let them be anachronisms. It's a way to be "non-woke" and not be attacked (be period pieces)

Solid idea.

Unfortunately my expectations, Bond will be a member of the LGBTQ community, a minority, preachy, and played by someone who isn’t British. Everything that represents the opposite of James Bond.

#1. Hire Henry Cavil as the new Bond
#2. Set the movie in the 60s.
#3. Write a story that you’d have written for Sean Connery.
#4. Profit.

Do you think a female, trans or gay bond will be better than Craig’s?
If it's a trans Bond played by Ana de Armas, then yes. She was the best thing in the Craig franchise (and a throwback to the Connery/Moore days).

At "worst" I think we'd get a black or brown Bond. I think the reinventing would be to push even further away from the 20th Century womanizing man's man than they did with Craig.

Personally, I'd have rather seen a black Bond with some of the sensibilities and isolation of the previous Bonds, rather than Craig Bond with his damaged heart and his need for ongoing, meaningful relationships.

And I'd be surprised if we had a straight white male M, Q, or Felix. Those are just too tempting to replace.

In a new interview, lead Bond producer Barbara Broccoli confirmed that they're at least two years away from starting production on the next instalment in the series because they're in the process of “reinventing” the character. “It’s a reinvention of Bond,” Broccoli told Deadline. “We’re working out where to go with him, we’re talking that through."

As for potential candidates to fill Craig's shoes… “Nobody's in the running”," she said. "We’re reinventing who he is and that takes time. There isn’t a script and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film. I’d say that filming is at least two years away.”

Yeah, even if you take the likelihood of wokeness out of the conversation this doesn’t bode well at all. Sounds like they don't have any idea of a storyline and are going to be flying by the seat of their pants.

It's probably going to suck

I was born a year after Dr. No came out....(not quite as old as you...Ha)...

I actually thought they had turned the table after Skyfall..It appeared that they were moving back to a more traditional Bond storytelling but they didn't..

I'm not convinced "Bond is Dead" but it has one foot in the grave and the other on the banana peel.

Instead of badarse Craig going through the dia de Los muertos festival

It’ll be a bond they ( respecting preferred pronouns) marching through the pride parade in San Francisco to kick the movie off

If James Bond is black, or a woman, I’ve already watched my last ‘new’ James Bond movie.

Well, that is literary Bond to a "t", and Casino Royale set it up perfectly. The problem was they tethered themselves to continuing that story to varying degrees, and outright retconned things to be like Marvel. The Madeleine Swan storyline is a reboot of his relationship with Tracey. 'Skyfall' came too early in Craig's run, and ruined the trajectory of Craig's tenure.

I think the next Bond needs to be more like Moore or Brosnan. The films need to be lighter and more accessible to a younger audience, or the franchise will die. No need to make it woke, just make it fun again, maybe a little silly. I have really been digging the Moore films on Amazon Prime lately, and as a 90s kid, Brosnan will always have a soft place in my heart.

I say this as someone who also loves Connery and Craig.

Bond does not belong to this ridiculous era of mankind. Let him be dead.
The most prescient comment to date.

Connery and Craig were two sides of the same coin.

Craig’s “reinvention” merely made the Cold War Bond into a man of his times with a little more back story. Adopted orphan, figuratively or literally? SAS. Nearly as adroit around Chemin de Fer as Connery’s 007 but absolutely a lethal killer who could take as much punishment he handed out. Ruthless towards enemies; loyal to Queen and Country. A Churchill with a Walther, a dinner jacket, and the ability and the will to kill you with any object within his grasp is so ordered or should necessity demand.

Maybe not so much a 21st century man after all and more comfortable in the 19th.

The Connery and Craig Bonds and the vices and virtues they embraced and embodied, as you say, are dead and unrecognizable to the markets to which Ms. Broccoli will pander and coddle.
