I actually think the show has gotten much better
me too. People are the real threat. The group doesn't really fear the walkers they know what their intent is.

Yep, and it's been really interesting to watch the group progress. UPN (i think) plays TWD reruns every Tuesday. They're in season 3 right now where Rick is just waiting in the prison every day for the Governor to show up. After that and Terminus he doesn't frick around anymore. That's why he launched the assault on The Saviors this season.

looking back i think deanna this season and tyreese last season are the only notable characters that have been killed by zombies, and tyreese was the last "member" of rick's group to get eaten.
its been a long time since zombies were the primary threat to survival

Either way, your focus is on dead people rising from the grave.

Well that is a great formula for selling dish detergent. Not such a great formula for making a good show.
It's still one of the most popular shows on TV so the formula's obviously still working pretty well for them.
The show has always being about how people survive in that kind of world. If they wanted to do a show with somehow finding a cure, the show probably would've lasted about 2-3 seasons. There's only so much you can do with a story line like that as opposed to one about once regular, everyday people trying to adapt to a new/dangerous world. In addition the comics are still running so why would the show go off in an entirely different direction?

The story doesn't just have to be about finding a cure. They could do close to what they're doing now and slowly progress towards an end goal.
Take Breaking bad for example. The end goals were clear. Walt wants to be a kingpin and leave a fortune for his family. Hank wants to catch Heisenberg. Not every show focused on these goals specifically, but they progressed towards them slowly.

Which would be what exactly? They're about 3 years into the apocalypse and every end goal for them has gone to shite. The world just stopped. What would be your end goal in that situation?

That is for the writers of the show to figure out. A good story has a long term goal and supplements it with smaller short term goals along the way. Walking dead has nothing but short term goals.
The only motivation to watch this show is to see if Rick and the gang survive another week. That gets old after a while. Tease me toward a long term payoff and I might start watching again.

To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.

My point is this show has never really been about solving the problem instead just their survival just like the comics which the show has /will somewhat stay true to. And in the comics it's about making a new world. I get how it can get old but the episodes recently have been great and it's only going to get better (at least for the current storyline). Anyway the whole finding a cure thing is kind of cliche for zombie/virus apocalyptic world stories. It's not often you see one that's focused on what most/regular people would do in that kind of world which would not include trying to find a cure.
Also their ratings are still really high so they're not going to change their future plans for the show anytime soon.

This half season has me completely uninterested and I've lost all desire to watch the show

I stopped 3 episodes ago. Been losing interest for awhile, but kept watching because my husband does. I've just completely lost interest now.

The long term plan is to turn one of these camps into a permanent home.
