It's a miracle that Batman Begins managed any box office success at all.

I refuse to believe that's real

It is. Lol. I remember it.

Wow
I do recall rolling my eyes when I first saw a trailer or whatever for it, thinking we were getting another terrible one.

Honestly, that looks like they were trying for a broad spectrum of viewers. They were gonna get the hardcore comic/Batman fans regardless, especially since the clips made it clear that this wasn't going to be another campy-as-hell post-Keaton Batman movie. It was obvious they were going for dark and dramatic, both in tone and in style. So what they were trying with this was to capture people who might not otherwise want to go so some "costumed crime fighter in a silly suit facing silly enemies" type of movie. Emphasizes drama, romance, thriller, etc -- essentially trying to bring in cross-genre audiences. The box office results -- with the understanding that correlation =/= causation -- seem to bear out this strategy's effectiveness.
Also, remember, this was before Christopher Nolan was, well, Christopher Nolan. He had decent but not box office blockbuster hits with movies like Insomnia and Memento, but this was the movie that turned him toward the career he has now. So most people weren't just going to see it because it was a Nolan film.

that’s absolutely terrible. The floating words with the effect to make them look 3D

The shots of him training make him look like a gym bro just trying to stay in shape so he can get the girl.

That’s fricking hilarious

The last good song Nickleback ever wrote.

That's not real. No way

I don’t think I could make a worse Batman Begins commercial even if I tried.

Uh, not that obvious

Good grief, that is an abomination.

They used Nickleback. How could it not be a box office smash would be a better question.

I definitely remember being surprised that it was actually good because of the bad ads

If you read the description, it's the fifth TV spot ad that ran for the film.
It's totally believable that that ran. I guarantee the first 3 or 4 TV ads were all pretty serious, then the studio decided to put out a spot to draw in women and a lighter crowd, especially Highlighting Katy Holmes the way they did.
You also have to remember that this is 2005, and the height of Nickelbacks powers.
For those too young to remember, the band had just come off a HUGE Spiderman 2 single and this was like a year later. Batman begins is also like only the 3rd or 4th "superhero" movie to come out after x-men and Spiderman that rejuvenated the genre, and Nolan is not at all a house hold name or known as an incredibly talented, serious, Kubrick-like filmmaker yet.
Nickelback was still destroying the charts... Damn I misse the early-mid 00s. The music went from incrdibly fun hip hop to terrible bad rock...what a time.

Ding ding ding.
It's the Dawson's Creek version that they ran for the romance audience. It wasn't the theme of the entire ad campaign.

I remember being skeptical of this film when it was first announced. I still remember disliking images of the new batsuit and the new batmobile.
The teaser trailer didn't really show much and the second teaser trailer left a lot to be desired as well.
Batman Begins - 1st Theatrical Trailer
But when the first theatrical trailer was released I have to say I was hooked. It went from being a surefire DVD rental to being one of my most anticipated films of 2005.
