Personally I veg out all day watching “Owww, My Balls!”
That movie has so many great scenes but maybe the hardest I laugh is the end of the movie when Dax S. goes up to that guy to tell him how much he loves his show.

Mtv died back in like 2002 or 2003.
Full turnaround!

The problem with music videos in general is that they became cookie-cutter promotional shorts for bubblegum pops songs in the late 90s.
I dunno, maybe. But a tv channel playing videos can’t compete with YouTube.

The Challenge is the Goat-reality show.

MTV has been dead since 2000, 1998 if we are getting nit-picky.
I remember when you actually wanted to see your video and music on there. Now, it would be a great source of shame.

Someone posted this a while back, and there was FAR LESS things other than Ridiculousness. Like it was a week of that show and maybe like one or two others. At least this one has different shows on it, and some movies.
I think the one that was posted a few months ago had Ridiculousness and a few hours of a movie two nights a week and the challenge for an hour or two on one night.

David Fincher
His day job was directing music videos for a long time. Everything from Rick Springfield videos (NOT Working Class Dog, but after), The Motels (and Martha Davis solo), "Roll With It" by Steve Winwood, Madonna's "Vogue", all the way to APC's "Judith".
Crazy range of things Fincher has done, too. Assistant Cameraman for Jedi, matte work for Temple of Doom and Neverending Story, most of it pre-Se7en.

Music videos got REALLY experimental with R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion."
How many years before Thriller came out was this?

I wish they would just show music documentaries, past and present performances, live shows etc. I think there is an audience for that. At least it would make some TV executive feel like going to work in the morning. That schedule would make me want to put a gun in my mouth if I was running the station.

I’m making a distinction between “experimental” and “theatrical.”
Also, as epic a pop cultural artifact is the “Thriller” video, it is a 13 minute short film, so it’s kind of a chore compared to standard music videos.

MTV is beyond its prime. While influential and groundbreaking in many ways, I can't recall any point in my life where MTV was "good." Maybe when I was real little.

That was me. These graphs come from @MTVSchedule on twitter. Really fascinating to look over the last few months. I did find a few weeks where they went an entire 24 hours without a single episode of Ridiculousness so that's progress.

They did launch the whole music video genre that lasted, what, 25 years?
With a huge, and I mean completely impossible mission shift, they could be a platform for current, aspiring, and classic musicians and visual artists.
I pick through about 2 hrs of music videos a week on YT, fwiw.

If you were growing up when the original vj's were on there, it was great.

Guess I was not lol. I remember the music videos and the Carson (whatever his name was) top ten or whatever. I feel like I recall vh1 having better content for longer though, but that didn't last long either. The "I love the 80's[90s]" etc were interesting the the top 100 greatest rock moments/ type shows were interesting but idk lol. When you watch stuff about the late 80s and early 90s it seemed like MTV was on top of the world but that was mostly before my time.

That sounds like the late 90s. Mtv was at it's peak from 81 to about 85.

So much nostalgia from my teenage and young adult life linked to mtv.
It’s downright sad and pathetic what it’s become.

There was a time in the mid 90s when you raced home from school to see if there were any new videos on MTV . I vividly remember getting home and turning it on and watching Faith no More's "Last Cup of Sorrow" for the first time.
And not to mention recording 120 minutes on the vcr every Sunday night. Most of the music I still listen to or loved I discovered on that show.
