This whole board hates TDKR. When it is really not that bad, just doesn't live up to the first two movies.

Except for this. This was pretty bad.

There are certainly things to be enjoyed in TDKR but it has far too many plot holes for a film that takes itself so seriously. Most of my issues with it are related to the script, so the blame rests with both Christopher Nolan and his brother. The ending, for example, is so contrived and hamfisted it boggles my mind they actually wrote it and thought it was good.

I think I'd rather re-watch any Nolan film over TDKR, including Following.

And is it just me, or does Bale have his mouth hanging open like Cletus the slack-jawed yokel virtually every time he it showed him in the cowl?

To be fair, Bane kicking Batman's arse was a great fight scene imo.

Interstellar

Interstellar was one of the best films of the decade. Did you just not “get” it? The dark knight rises sucked pretty hard. For all of the reasons listed above.

Or is it actually a below average film, and the people who like it are just too forgiving?

I didn't hate the scene necessarily, I actually like the idea and execution of it. It just doesn't fit in the film at all, and it feels way awkward in it. You can't go with that kind of visual and tonal shift in a film that is supposed to be more real, more direct. It would fit in Batman 89, and it was a much better execution on Schumacher's Batman Forever style, but it didn't fit Nolan's world.

hey bruce, you're now broke. We think it may be fraud but we can't prove it yet.

Oh yeah you think the guy breaking into the trade center, hacked something, and then left might have resulted in fraud?

Yeah. That was so mind numbing it stupid. How would anyone approve that in the script writing process?

I always get a chuckle at how much this board criticizes the shite out of TDKR, yet something like an MCU film gets a pass. Plot holes in a Marvel film? who cares, it's just marvel being marvel.

Agree completely. And this is coming from someone who cringes at the thought of sending all the cops into the sewers.

I think TDKR gets more hate because of the expectations people had for it

Maybe.

I think it has more to do with the presentation. Nolan's trilogy tries to be more "real," have heavier, realistic consequences, be more direct and less fantastical. He does well over the first two, but he crashes and burns with TDKR. He presents a grounded world. I mean, the whole idea that 6 months of being Batman destroys Wayne's body, which is very real, completely goes against the non-aging, non suffering comic book heroes where this comes from. Take any 12-issue arc of Batman and the poor guy probably gets an average of 1-2 concussions per issue.

So, when you construct a world with these kinds of consequences, limitations, realism, then plot holes that break that world and make it seem less real are way more harmful than other types of films.

It's like caring about the Computer Virus in Independence Day. That's one of the most glaring and ridiculous plot holes around, but did most people really care when watching the film? Probably not, because you weren't expected to as a viewer. You just kind of go with it.

Plus, the other statement about this makes no sense because Begins and TDK generally get a lot of love. it has nothing to do with the MCU, and everything to do with the intentions of the film itself.

Are we back to lowering the standard Nolan set for the movie to just another campy super hero movie?

I need to know what goal post to aim for. Which is it? Was Nolan out to make gritty realistic Oscar worthy detective movies or pretending Nolan was trying to make Ant Man?

I can understand why you were disappointed. I only expected an entertaining summer popcorn flick.

I admit the movie has it's flaws, but it also has some really great scenes. Bane was an awesome villain, as good as any villain in a comic book film, IMO.

FIFY. Maybe try correct grammar next time if you want a joke to land

Otherwise it looked like just misspelling "Why did you hate the courtroom scene?" And like I said, I don't hate the courtroom scene, so the joke doesn't make sense. It's just evidence of the awkward tonal shifts in the movie.
