No, but I did miss this...

Really? Who even refers to that as an important or good film anymore? It's not overrated, or even underrated, it's largely forgotten. I liked it, but it's not even Cronenberg's best movie.

Blind Side - good movie.

Pulp Fiction - Terrible.

Actually all of Tarantino's movies blow!

Have you seen gigli? Seems like that might could be your new favorite based on your ability to determine that one of the most brilliant filmmakers in recent time makes only shitty movies.

I should probably just stay out of this thread with all the Pulp Fiction, Tarrantino, and Shawshank bashing.

Next thing I know, someone would be saying how overrated Hitchcock was and I'd have to kill a mf'er.

I'm leaving now before someone does it just to test me.

I liked the Blind Side a lot more than I was expecting. It's a a great story. No cinematic masterpiece, but a satisfying experience.

This movie had the biggest build up for a final showdown between Taye Diggs and Bayle, yet the actual showdown lasted like 2 seconds in the film. I was mad that we didn't get to see a huge matrix type fight between the two of them.

People take that kind of criticism the wrong way (see that guy below). Don't get me wrong, I love both movies. Honestly. But to talk about Pulp Fiction as the bastion of modern cinema is false. The Matrix had more of an influence and importance than Pulp Fiction. By a lot.

Asking the question of overrated and underrated about personal opinions is pointless. So I assume this discussion is more about general consensus, and in that matter, as much praise PF gets (especially from my generation), it is relatively undeserved.

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not.

If so, sorry.

If not, Really? Gladiator is about the most cliched epic piece of junk I have ever seen. It was cheesy, predictable, and way too safe. The Spainiard was maybe the most boring and uninspiring "great" character I have ever seen.

I expected much, much more from Scott.

The ONLY good thing about the film is Joaquin's Commodus, that's it.

My comment was really more in response to my own post. I wasn't offended by your take, just funny that you chose two of my all-time top 10 to use in your point. I love Pulp Fiction and Shawshank, but I make no claims that either is a masterpiece of film-making, just films I love.

I agree with your comment about the Matrix, and really believe it had more effect on other films than any movie in a several years.

Also, you weren't the one who made the comment about tarrantino sucking, but I always find that funny since he is my favorite director other than Hitchcock. Not saying the other guy is wrong, but moreso laughing at my own taste in movies.

Which is exactly the way it should be looked at. Too many people end up translating, "I love this movie.." into "This is the best movie ever.." so any movie, like Pulp Fiction, with tons and tons of deserved love, ends up turning into something "respected" for the wrong reasons *cough* Avatar *cough*

This gets into the discussion I've always wanted to get in to around here: What makes a "great" movie, great? What are the qualities?

If it is in fact, only audience support that makes a film great, then you may have an argument for something like Pulp Fiction. But that is a discussion for another day.

More than several years. In a way, it had more of an effect on cinema than something like The Godfather even. And I think there are a lot of problems with The Matrix as well, so understand that too

Nothing wrong with liking Tarantino. If he patterned his career more like Hitchcock, rather than releasing one film every 10 years, he may be in that discussion. He certainly as the skills, but he hasn't produced enough high quality products.

And unlike Kubrick, he never goes outside of his comfort zone.

I disagree. I think Rudy and Titans were probably better but not leaps and bounds better.

I really liked Rudy but it definitely had some really slow parts in the middle.

It's the most overrated movie since The Dark Knight.
