I'm sure there are deep dives out there but she did not just change the poetic style
I obviously can't read the original text, but I did try to research this. It seems scholars believe her translation to be closer to the original text in some cases than other translations. The main scholarly complaint I can find is related to her decision to go with a modern poetic style. The complaints I was able to find stated that was the primary driver of any story changes in her translation.
I only spent a couple hours looking into this though so maybe there are other criticisms that discuss how her version is more "feminist" than others. I'd love to read those criticisms if you know or anyone can share those. I'm inclined to believe search engine algorithms would push those sorts of analyses to the bottom.

But it isn’t just that, Odysseus isn’t a hero in her story. He’s a manipulative, self serving person. You can say that’s a realistic view of a person but he’s an archetype character, he symbolizes many aspirational themes. Deconstructing him for ideological purposes doesn’t serve the story, it changes it. She also downgrades lesser characters, basically calling anyone who isn’t at the top of the food chain a slave, including all of the women. Again there’s no reason for this, these are symbolic characters in a narrative. What she’s done is corrupt the narrative and archetypes which changes the story.

She doesn't do a modern poetic style so much as she translates in favor of maintaining the original amount and length of lines, as she says in the intros of both her Iliad and The Odyssey.
I'm currently rereading the Iliad with her translation, and I'll do The Odyssey next.
Can we all agree to ignore Madking being a fukking idiot about this? Hard to imagine she downplays Odysseus's heroism, given that there isn't a popular translation that depicts him as a modern selfless hero. That translation would be unfaithful to the character. He uses his brain and guile to outsmart and trick antagonists. He's selfish and arrogant.
And if you read The Oddyssey in high school decades ago, this is what you were taught/talked about then as well. Or your teacher sucked. Or, most likely, you didn't read it and are now pretending to care.

This necessarily removes chunks of text, because our language requires more words to express what was said. At least, that seems to be the chief complaint from the scholars I found. I've read the Iliad and the Odyssey, but don't feel overly compelled to read a new version myself to compare it to other versions. I only take that effort with the Bible.

I have never seen so many baws giddy over a tranny before. It's a new niche in our culture. The memes are like tranny porn and they are addicted.

Ah the ole “why do you even care” retort.
Intelligent, original, concise, and precisely moderate.
Brilliant.

It's a movie. Casting is worthy of a discussion. This is beyond that. I find it overblown but hey, you do you. I'm not stopping anything. Just commenting on a comment board.
