Is it bi-opic or bio-pic? Having a friendly debate.

I'd like the movie experts to weigh in without my opinion influencing the responses. I have a co-worker over my shoulder arguing with me about it.

It’s short for Biographical Picture, answer is pretty clear

I always thought it was "bi-opic" until sometime in recent years I heard it pronounced "bio-pic" which made me wonder if I had been mispronouncing it in my head all along. Then I realized I don't think I've ever actually spoken that word or heard it until then only read it and pronounced it in my head.
For what it's worth spell check says "bi-opic" is misspelled but not "bio-pic".

So romantic comedy should be rohm-cahm instead of rahm-cahm? Science fiction should be sye-fih instead of sye-fye?
There are countless examples of portmanteaus that dont retain the exact sounds as the base words.
Why is it bi-ahgraphy instead of bio-graphy?
Bi-ahpic sounds 100x better. Bio-pic sounds like something a 6 year old would read aloud when seeing it the first time.

bi-opic is what Colonel Steve Austin's eye is made from.

I mean, these all are much different than completely changing the break point of the shorthand word.
Bi-optic implies there’s a “o” in picture or that it involves there’s being 2 of something- that’s a bigger leap than changing the phonetic tone of a word bc it rolls off the tongue better

This sounds like a sentence Harry Crane would pop off while fuming about Ken Cosgrove getting into the Atlantic Monthly

There's plenty of precedent for long letter sounds changing based on whether its a noun or adjective. Myopia becomes myopic. Nation becomes national. Crime becomes criminal.
There are enough similar sounding words that make biopic make sense
Bionic
Biopsy
Biography
Myopic
I realize that I'll be in the minority on this but I would need the hyphen for it to be bio-pic in my head. This also seems to be a regional thing where americans say bio-pic and europeans say bi-opic

It is pronounced "BY-oh-pick" (bio-pic), according to major dictionaries like Merriam-Webster.
You can also google biopic pronunciation. Then click on the audio to hear it spoken.

I always pronounced it bi-ah-pic (like biotic) and agree that the whole bio-pic seems to be a “new” pronunciation that I’ve only heard in recent years. I’m pretty sure it’s incorrect.

100% agree with you.
I've always read it as bi-opic, and swear that's how I heard it until recent years.
Anyway, off to read a bio-graphy.

Is this a serious question?
Whoever thinks it’s bi-opic is a fricktard.
“Two”… what? “Eyes?” “Vision?” “Sight?”
FFS. Very obviously bio-pic. Biographical Picture.
How the frick does one even think it’s bi-opic?
