re: Is 9/11 basically untouchable?

Not a movie but the television series "Rescue Me" basically revolved around 9/11 as one of its central themes, the aftermath of it and how it affected the fireman and police in the show. From Tommy Gavin being an alcoholic with survivor's guilt, to Sheila dealing with the loss of her husband, Lou basically died on the inside that day, hell, Garrity got (testicular) cancer from doing volunteer cleanup at the WTC site.
Granted, the show was a comedy/drama/tragedy and not a depiction of the day itself, training, motivation, execution, etc. or a tail of survival but it did use 9/11 as one of its central themes or at least as a device that helped move the show.

I think they should at least expose the truth about 9/11. I don't think its fair how they hid the evidence against all the families that lost loved ones that catastrophic day.

Someday somebody will probably do a pic about Rick Rescorla. He had it pegged beforehand, got all his people out, was a hero before and died that day a hero.

Gotta be more than one compelling script out there getting tabled for a Weird Science remake.
I'd also throw ZD30 (sorta) in the mix as a relevant movie, and think film lovers are ready for more great ones like 93.

Late to the thread so the idea might have already been put forth but I think after a good while it will be more accepted as movie material. As the generation that actually lived through it gets old and the future generations have no genuine emotional connection to it but still would like to see it "on the big screen"
Pearl Harbor was mentioned. Hell, look at Titanic. Even amongst the love story, I can't imagine what it was like for some of the survivors to see the film. Not saying they disapproved or didn't like it, but probably a rush of emotions that they hadn't felt in a long time.
For us, Titanic sinking was nearly an abstract idea. We heard about it, it was the ship sinking, we had old pictures, that was it.

What about that Tol Hanks movie based on a book where his son is remembering his dad who died in 9/11?
Never saw it so I could be wrong

They've done it before, the most tasteless being "Remember Me", which I think may be the biggest open "frick you" to the audience I've ever seen. The movie is a stupid love story and then without hardly any foreshadowing, they end it with the main character dying in the attacks.
It was really as if the director was saying, "Do you like or hate these characters? Well regardless, frick you, here's 9/11 coming out of nowhere so you can care about something in this movie, and I don't give a shite if you had a loved one killed in it and don't remotely foreshadow it or tell you about it in the advertising." It's good to have contempt for your audience.
Im like the only one in the world who disagrees with this stance. haha.
I like that it came out of nowhere. I like that it was a complete non sequitur. Those attacks came out of nowhere and had nothing to do with the people in those buildings. To me, it recreated the feelings of that day better than a movie about 9/11 where you knew it was coming. But thats just me.
I actually thought that movie was very well made and actually captured the randomness associated with the act, including many who randomly were not there as well as those who would not be there on a daily basis but just so happened to be that day.. I thought it was powerful and well done.
Also, Adam Sandler's Reign Over Me was about the emotional toll of 9/11

The lack of the 25th Hour in this thread is a huge oversight.
Great movie.
Great movie.
