I'm excited about the Defenders coming out next week but haven't seen Fist or Cage after poor reviews. Should I binge them?

I'm in the middle of Luke Cage right now. Still have Iron Fist to watch.

I loved Daredevil. Jessica Jones was boring and depressing. I'm liking Luke Cage.

Looking forward to The Defenders and I can't friggen wait for The Punisher.

Loved Iron Fist. Luke Cage is slow and dry.

I agree that you should give Iron Fist a shot. A good chunk of the initial negative reviews were SJWs triggered by cultural appropriation because a privileged white guy was using Asian martial arts. I'm not even kidding either, that actually happened.

Madam Gao (the old chinese mafia lady first introduced in DD) has been at the center of a lot of what's going down in Hell's kitchen so far and she has a pretty big arc in Iron Fist, so I think it might actually be useful to have seen Iron Fist. It also looks like Electra will be in this so season 2 of Dare Devil will probably be useful too. Outside of that I think you'll be able to quickly pick up on things.

Iron Fist was unfairly criticized by reviewers who were more influenced by the PC police than by the final product. White people can learn martial arts, just like Asian people can learn to play basketball. The difference is that only white people get called racist for doing it on screen.

Yeah Iron Fist seems more important for the overall universe. While I didn't finish Luke Cage, there was nothing about it that seemed to tie into the other shows.

And if OP has seen Jessica Jones then he has already been introduced to Luke Cage's character, so that seems like enough.

Both are pretty bad. Iron Fist is atrocious.

Luke Cage was much worse than Iron Fist.

At least Harold Meachum wasn't killed off 7 episodes in and replaced with one of the villains from The Running Man.

This thread has turned into "OMG I'm gonna put a bunch of spaces between the initials if the shows to make sure everyone knows my opinions!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I watched iron fist last week and it wasn't the atrocity a lot of you make it out to be. There was great character development, an intricate plot involving a lot of gray areas for people who tried to see things in black and white, and the hero was learning the emotional side of life after searching for years to fill an emotional void. I think people that complained about it probably didn't get more than an episode or 2 in and wanted something to complain about.

I think that was the only thing really wrong with Luke Cage....I mean hell I thought they did pretty well considering LC basically can't be killed by any normal means that bad guys use.

Iron Fist was OK....I thought it was a good story with less than stellar actors.

This right here.

It's interesting actually, Iron Fist was slammed over perceived "cultural appropriation" or "white washing" of a character that has always been white.

Luke Cage was elevated based solely on the fact that it had a black super hero as the lead.

They both had their issues, but neither one was as good or bad as their reviews would have you believe.
