Industry response to Kodi, etc.

With the exponential growth of Kodi, etc. and instant availability of screener copies filtering down to people like me with no skill making it really easy to skip the theater, how will the industry respond?
What does the movie landscape look like in 5 years?

I've never heard of Kodi, but anyone who steals movies is a giant piece of shite.

Explain to me how it any different from stealing something from a gas station? Would you just shove some food into your pocket at a gas station and walk out?

Blockbusters like Star Wars will still make a lot of money. Smaller movies like Spotlight get limited releases. Kodi won't change the entire industry.

What you described is a change to the industry. The methods of recovering the investment to fund mid sized movies are changing.

But he's right
Theft is theft, regardless of whether it's online or in-store

A lot of those smaller movies don't recover their investments. The massive profits from Star Wars, Marvel, etc fund those smaller movies. At least now you have additional revenue streams in Netflix, Amazon, and VOD.

frick the police
hollywood and the makers of their movies suck more times than not. they deserve to have their movies pirated.
if they didn't want their work stolen, they should of taken up a more legit profession than acting. they could have been much more beneficial to society as a plumber, electrician, doctor, etc. instead they decided to be entertainers.

Those will dry up as well, then what? That's the original point of the OP until these two turned it into an ethics debate.

You are a terrible person

They're obviously doing something worthwhile, or you wouldn't be using your time to steal their shite.
Try and rationalize it however you like, but it's pretty straightforward. Someone else made something of value; you are stealing it. That's a shitty thing to do

Opening up a can of worms when talking about indirect theft. Bet you're no angel either

When they can do Hollywood Accounting and say that films like Return of the Jedi ($475mm Box Office, $32.5mm budget) never made a profit, then they can deal with piracy. No sympathy
