Critics' Consensus

Although there's a nostalgic rush in seeing Harrison Ford back in action, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is a largely unnecessary franchise finale.

quote:

Synopsis:

Daredevil archaeologist Indiana Jones races against time to retrieve a legendary dial that can change the course of history. Accompanied by his goddaughter, he soon finds himself squaring off against Jürgen Voller, a former Nazi who works for NASA.

Does it work, though — in a way that Crystal Skull’s climax didn’t? Sort of! It depends if you are willing to go with it.

So if this bombs, we can assume Mangold will be removed from star wars and he can head over to DC to start work on Swamp Thing

Go in expecting Raiders you’ll be disappointed

Go in expecting Crystal Skull 50-50 you’ll be disappointed.

Honestly, if they had stolen the plot to the first Uncharted and just made him Indiana Jones, it would easily be the 3rd best Indiana Jones movie.

James Mangold is too good a writer/director for this movie to flop without some kind of outside interference. If this movie fails, it will be Kathleen Kennedy's fault - not Mangold's.

Reading the plans reviews the consensus is “better than Crystal Skull but why did they make this?”

I agree, but she's always been the problem, yet she's still there while directors and writers get removed.

They just couldn’t help but try and get one more bottle of glue out of this dead horse. Nobody was asking for another Indiana Jones movie where Indy is 80 years old. This is pure nostalgia bait with a female replacement shoehorned in.

It’s kind of funny that most movies on this site that critics shite on, the consensus is “critics suck. If they hate the movie, I’ll probably love it.”

But this is different because everyone wants to hate this movie.

I didnt hate Crystal Skull.

I remember doing an Indy marathon and obviously CS was last. It felt like an indiana Jones movie to me. The ending was a bit out there, but so was a lot of stuff in the other movies.

Indiana Jones is a franchise much like James Bond. We all have our favorite “Bond”, but if you are a fan you watched the movies regardless of who drive the car and got the girls. They should have passed the torch long ago, but kept the movies set between 1925–1950.
