In Jurassic Park- how did the T-Rex escape?

In the movie, you see it step out of its pen like it’s no big deal once the power goes out. It looks like it’s on even ground. Later on though, it pushed the car off the cliff and it’s a massive chasm. So how the hell did it get across earlier? My head canon is that there’s a ramp in the middle and we just didn’t see it in the film, but it’s kind of flimsy to be taken seriously. Also, why would you have a giant arse moat if you’re trying to show it off to the tourists? Spielberg didn’t think this one out.

I think Spielberg has talked about this incongruity. Basically, its a frick up, but one they knew about it. They just decided to go with it for the visuals and story telling, and not worry about it, even though it doesn't make much sense.
At least that's what I recall being said.

The book does not paint a very good picture of the scene either.

Yeah. The book has a lot of different stuff from the movie too, it’s way darker and I wish the movie was like that. It has 2 T-Rexes, raptors on the boat, grant killing raptors, and Henry Will getting killed. But the lawyer guy survives and Hammond dies. I wish we got to see that stuff in the movies.

I want to know how the T-Rex got into the museum or whatever it is when he saved the day and killed the raptors, unnoticed. Did they have a giant arse door for that thing to get in? How could they not hear that giant dinosaur moving around?

When they had the "T-Rex doesn't want to be fed, it wants to hunt" scene, they were on even ground with it with a giant fence up. I assume that the area they were in was huge and it may have been off a cliff in parts.

The lawyer is a straight up badass in the book. His character getting turned into a cheap lawyer joke for the movie was very disappointing.

The exterior wall wasn't finished and the opening was large enough for her to get into the building.

Great special effect except they missed the brown shite stain that should’ve been visible on the lawyers arse.

Production crew has admitted it was basically a frick up in the movie
.
I used to wonder about this all the time as a kid.
