Good lord I hated that movie. It could be that my mom forced me to go watch it with her 4 times. That's like 16 hrs of stupid.

Only gets good when everyone starts dying. Prior to that, all it has to offer is Kate Winslet boob.

Plus the ending is fricking dumb.

The Academy would rank them in this order...

Titanic
Slumdog
Crash
Gladiator
Beautiful Mind
Dances with Wolves
Million Dollar Baby
The Hurt Locker
Shakespeare in Love

I would put Gladiator at my top.

Crash
Million Dollar Baby
Slumdog Millionaire

One of these three. The Oscars tend to give the nod to social issue movies regardless of quality. It helps for a movie to be "important." I would lean towards Crash or Slumdog Millionaire winning of those 3.

dances with wolves, bro

the noble savage meme and slavery/racism are the 2 biggest societal issues in the American consciousness

dances wins out b/c it is a bigger "hollywood movie" with the movie star and everything, plus it's set in a historical setting and has a major scope. the academy loves that shite

crash is #2

slumdog is #3 (poverty and probably the best movie on that list)

Over the last 30 years, the only best picture winners that would beat Dances with Wolves are Schindler’s List, Braveheart, and maybe Forrest Gump or 12 Years a Slave.

Titanic--in a landslide--it would win its 11 against any field (except Schindler's List maybe)

I like Gladiator on that list best, but I wouldn't vote for it over Titanic--that film was a game changer in so many ways.

Titanic is in a category along with GWTW, West Side Story, Ben-Hur, and LOTR as one of the greatest Oscar winners of all time. It's a film the Academy reveres above all others.

Yeah, I thought about that after I was reading responses. I think I agree with you on that top three.

I read it that way, and I don't see how you can NOT answer Titanic. It won almost every award it was up for. It was an Oscar juggernaut.
