Better script? I agree. Better film? I disagree.

Slumdog and Gladiator are my favorite of those, can't really imagine which of the listed would win though

It definitely had better elements that I personally enjoy more out of a movie. This is a separate topic than what the thread is about, but I don't like Titanic at all. It's a trite love story told in an uninteresting way, and it stretches on forever.

Better script and film.

Don't see how there is a comparison.

'dances' is overrated imo, though still a good film ... what would win and what the best film is are two different questions ... 'titanic' would probably win, and while it's a great movie, i think 'a beautiful mind' is better ...

Other than the script and acting, Titanic has it beat in the categories of directing, music, editing, cinematography and production design.

It's a much better produced and executed film.

Completely disagree.

LA confidential is a much better film and beats Titanic in almost very category.

Again, to compare the two is rediculous.

There are probably at least 10 films I would put above Gladiator, even though it's a glossy, well produced film worthy of limited praise.

From that list in 2000 I would say:

1) O Brother
2) Memento
3) Almost Famous

Leo looks really upset that he hasn't won that individual Oscar yet...

I wouldn't. Anything post-2008 I don't count because they increased the number of potential nominees from 5 to 10. I would also rank 2008 below 1997 because the most significant and critically acclaimed film of the year wasn't even nominated for Best Picture.

They picked an absolute shite winner(No Country For Old Men) but that year was loaded and Juno & There Will Be Blood>Titanic

Without reading six pages, I'm going with Dances With Wolves. At least it should be. Titanic would probably win in reality. Dances deserves it, though. I still tear up when Two Socks is killed.
