If Holly wasn't a hostage, John would've escaped Nakatomi and left the other hostages

If she was never in the building, or was in the room with him when the takeover started instead of with the group for the speech and he got them both to the stairwell unnoticed, he would have gotten out that building and left those hostages. He didn't know anyone in that building except for his wife, one of the three people in LA that he cared for and flew in to see.
If he had the opportunity to get both of them out safely, then that's what his goal would have been without a second thought of the other hostages' fates.
Same with the second film: if his wife's plane had landed before the terrorists took over the airport, he would have walked right out the front doors with her and let the locals deal with it.
The fourth film is the same. He's only involved because he's ordered to pick up a suspect and escort him to the Feds in DC. I know what you're going to say, "After he delivers the kid, he didn't leave it alone. He got more involved."
That's true, but he was walking away and leaving the Feds to deal with it until the villain, for some stupid reason, decided to frick with him personally. And I'm not talking about taking his daughter. He was targeted before that. They took her hoping it would stop him.
He's only heroic because he isn't allowed to be selfish.
The only movie where he has no choice in whether to get involved or not is the third, which wouldn't have happened if his wife was never taken hostage in the first movie.
Agree or disagree?

If there wasn’t a predator Arnold and crew would’ve just killed a bunch of South American communists

Not the same.
They were being hunted by something that knew they were there.
The terrorists didn't know that someone slipped away unnoticed. They thought that they had taken everyone in the building hostage.
They only learned that there was a non-hostage when he pulled the fire alarm.
If he has Holly with him, or she's not in the building, he doesn't pull the fire alarm and alert them of his presence, He gets out the building to safety then calls 911

I'll do you one better, if Holly wasn't a hostage John wouldn't even be in the building.

I got another one for you: if his parents weren't killed, Bruce Wayne never becomes Batman.

If the Titanic doesn't hit an iceberg, uh, we wouldn't have seen Kate Winslet's tits or something.

If Neo had picked the Blue Pill the Matrix would have been much shorter

If there were no slaves, Gone With the Wind would not have been made.
No Star Wars if that galaxy was close by.

If Gavrilo Princep had just gone home after the initial failed attempt on Ferdinand, instead of hanging around and grabbing a sandwich, the entire world would look far, far differently right now, my friend.
"If" - the biggest little word of them all.

If they just used the Eagles to drop the ring into Mt. Doom, that would have saved them a lot of walking.

If Doc Brown would have aimed better while taking a piss, he wouldn't have later slipped on the wet porcelain while hanging a clock, and would have never had a vision of the Flux Capacitor.

I don't think anyone would argue that his whole mission was to save Holly.
In the rooftop helicopter scene, as the hostages are running down the stairs, he doesn't help them get out, he asks, "Where's Holly?"

Holly was bad luck. Like a terrorist magnet.

So what about his character, at that point in the movie, leads you to this conclusion? Please be specific.
