I see this talked about a lot as a huge negative and I thinks it's because most people don't realize that Black Widow was basically another version of the Soviets trying to replicate the US Super Soldier program.

From Wikipedia:

quote:

Powers and abilities:

Black Widow has been enhanced by biotechnology that makes her body resistant to aging and disease and heals above the human rate;[79] as well as psychological conditioning that suppresses her memory of true events as opposed to implanted ones of the past without the aid of specially designed system suppressant drugs.

The white blood cells in her body are efficient enough to fight off any microbe, foreign body and others from her body, keeping her healthy and immune to most, if not all infections, diseases and disorders.

Her agility is greater than that of an Olympic gold medalist. She can coordinate her body with balance, flexibility, and dexterity easily.
Romanova has a gifted intellect. She displays an uncanny affinity for psychological manipulation and can mask her real emotions perfectly. Like Steve Rogers, she possesses the ability to quickly process multiple information streams (such as threat assessment) and rapidly respond to changing tactical situations.

I actually meant Salt. Somehow I always confuse those titles.

Ultraviolet was a confusing mess.

Salt was a good action spy thriller

The problem with this is the MCU has not mentioned this a single time in how many movies now? Just one throwaway line during a Cap/BW conversation where she says, "Yeah, they did that to me, too. But I didn't volunteer." could have gone a long way to establish that fact. But, nope. We have the slightly pudgy, unathletic ScarJo decimating men but, oftentimes, trained elite soldiers.

It's irrelevant that in issue #39 of twenty something years ago the character was all the sudden imbued with these powers. It's what the filmmakers have provided to the viewers. Since IM2 she's been part of the MCU and bupkus has been said about her enhanced abilities.

Who? I don't see people going crazy to see this. I don't see how anyone could be super pumped. Endgame happened. I would think Super Hero Fatigue would be hitting lots of folks with the end of the Thanos plotline.

Do you really need it spoon fed to you like that considering the fact that so far she's been the only female character in the MCU engaging NFL linebacker sized henchmen in hand to hand combat and routinely beating them to a pulp?

Not like people on here praised Brie and Captain Marvel so your MCU angle is pure bullshite.

The folks on here are not exactly shy about calling substandard MCU stuff the drizzling shits. If anything they can be even tougher on MCU movies because they hold them to a higher standard.

As for the comments by some that it is so unrealistic to see a woman beat up a guy in a superhero movie... I don't go to superhero movies for intense realism. That would be like watching the Godfather movies and being disappointed there weren't any musical numbers.

Now, for the record, I will grant you the bounds of credibility can only be stretched so far. Hence why I have a tough time believing Ruby Rose and Katie Cassidy as arse kicking vigilantes on the CW Arrowverse shows. Both look like they were just rescued from a concentration camp and are about to enter the final stages of starvation.

Hanna is a fricking fantastic movie. Don't lump it in with some girl power bullshite.

And Black Widow looks and feels cheap and campy. Marvel or not.

Looks just a notch better than Birds of Prey, though that may be more enjoyable because it appears to not only be cheap and campy, but well aware of the fact that it's cheap and campy and, therefore, may steer into it to make light of it.

Either way, I'm not seeing either of Black Widow or Birds of Prey in theaters.

I have no desire to see a side-kick movie. Black WIdow might be a good Nextflix type movie but I have no desire to see girl power shite.

Totally true. It’s why I’m not excited about this movie.

If I’m going to watch an invincible chick I’d rather an Alita sequel.

Black Widow will probably get people by word of mouth like Watchmen series.

People who dont want to see it because of the woman aspect will if it turns out its a good spy action movie and folks come posting on here.

Same reason Im most excited for Falcon/Winter Soldier series out of all Marvel TV shows...Love the Spy/Superhero mix

I just don't understand why make it now when we know her fate? I mean, what are the stakes for this film?

Im not saying there are people jumping out of their seats, but I was just surprised how many people in the original trailer release thread were pretty excited about this. Like I was watching a different trailer from everybody else, because the movie looks bad. Its also months away, its going to have a good bit more build up by then.

Also, I dont care THAT much. As you can see in the thread i've thought points that were different from mine were fair points. It's just something to talk about. I enjoy a good woman action flick. My point is that based on what has been shown in the trailers, this looks like a horrible movie, and its a female action flick (which gets a lot of hate around here, whether or not some people like a few of them) but it is basically getting a free pass. I'm not saying by everybody. I just think it's funny that as long as you slap Marvel on something, people are going to be excited no matter what. But as someone said earlier, Marvel has built up a good track record so maybe its ok to be excited about it no matter how bad it looks.

The only reason I don't plan on watching it is because I don't think it looks like a good spy action movie, and there's nothing in Marvel's catalogue so far that makes me confident they can actually make a solid spy movie.

And I guess I should clarify that this has nothing to do with Marvel vs this or that. It's purely based on Disney movies in general and the previews they've shown to date.

Except for Captain America: Winter Soldier which might be the best movie in the MCU.

Honestly I'm just amused at how insecure this board gets for any movie that doesn't star a white guy. Like how are we going to pretend Black Widow is unrealistic but John Wick is perfectly fine?

Lucy is the kind of movie the MCU would never make because of its bonkers nature. They have too much tied to the brand to make a movie that is willing to have someone vomit the spectrum of light.

Thor Ragnarok and GotG are the only movies in the MCU that come all that close to bonkers, and even they are pretty paint by numbers just with neon colors.

I mean I'm not just excited for it, but it looks like a fun Marvel movie that I will definitely watch.

Also, Lucy was a really good movie. And I will fight over that.

Considering this has been a dogshit staple of Hollywood movies for years, maybe a little spoon-feeding is necessary. When almost the entire internet laughs at you for putting these eye-rolling sequences in your movies (not just singling out Marvel or BW), maybe it's time a producer/director/writer did something -anything- to explain this so you don't immediately lose a good percentage of your audience.

So is the issue one of sidekicks or one of girl power?

The marketing clearly indicates the importance of family being a major theme. So girly.
