I believe the Imperial Remnant will return in episode 9

John Boyega describes Episode 9 as “The war to end all wars.” That got me thinking...
Who else is even left to fight The First Order at this point besides the imperial remnant? The Republic Navy is no more. The Resistance is down to only 12 survivors. Whatever allies the Resistance has have been cowed and refuse to help.
All the while TFO pushes deeper towards the galactic core: Imperial territory. Will a reformed imperial remnant, similar to the EU, be the only ones left to fight? It seems they are the only logical answer.
They are the only other remaining military power left in the galaxy at this point.

How would he know? Didn’t JJ just pitch the story to the higher ups?

Given the unstable clear enemy but wishes to be friends relationship between Rey and Kylo, the constant talk of balance between light and dark, and the fact that militarily, there is nothing left to fight, something tells me this is going to be a massive existential threat to both that results in some sort of alliance.
Not necessarily the Vong either.
Also, as I understand it, this IS what is left of the Imperials however.

The Empire is still very much around, they own most of the core worlds. Until recently they have been bound by the Galactic Concordance to maintain only a small navy.
With the Republic gone they no longer are compelled to do so. Ironically they are quite safe to build up now since the first order has a long way to go to the core and their supply lines from the unknown regions will get very stretched.

C3PO is the Evil one that emerges. The Ewoks had it right., he is the God of their prophecies who was there from the beginning pulling strings. We thought Anakin made C3PO but it was he which made Skywalker.....and why each Skywalker gets more powerful the more Machine he becomes.

Snoke commissioned a clone army, should be ready by ep 9

Not challenging, but I fricking hate that the movies provide zero information on the topic of what happened to the Empire.
In all honesty, if the Empire is still around and NOT run by an evil Force user, they are the best choice left.
The New Republic is gone, the Resistance is reduced to a dozen Antifa members, and the First Order is run by a Darth Vader wannabe whose goal in life is to kill his parents.

Well...I mean there is only like 15 people left on both sides.
Maybe the “war to end all wars” is those 30 people getting in a back yard brawl and someone pulls a grenade killing them all

Pretty sure the Remnant started the Fist Order.

the way Poe was talking about the Dreadnaught, sounded like they had more. One ship going into hyperspace doing that much damage as crazy.
Should have had Luke save everyone by pulling the Fleet to the Surface, killing an injured Snoke. With only Hux and Kylo and a few token officers surviving.

Thrawn showing up in Ep. 9 would be a good lead in to further movies.
It would make 7/8 seem like a pointless story, but maybe that’s for the best.

At this point another HUGE unexplained threat (unless it is an outside threat they must join to defeat ala the white walkers) would invalidate ep7 and ep8 anyway.
It seems that an outside threat is the ONLY way the story can go that makes sense, but that would require Kylo, a white man, to turn good. I just don’t see Disney doing that now that they’ve completely outed themselves as being more concerned with social engineering than story telling.

I’m guessing that is exactly where this story is going.

I hope so - said from the beginning the best direction this can go is for Kylo to fight on the same side as Rey. Which is why, I think, everyone loved the red guard fight scene.

Star Wars needs a mysterious bad guy. Snoke was that and they screwed the pooch with him. Going into ep9 with emo Kylo as the main bad guy doesn’t do it for me.

Agreed. Even with the fall of Vader, part of the most intriguing aspect was watching Palpatine puppet master everything. They had the same thing with Snoke, but just threw it away.
