So you're a scientist now.

You act like they existed 10,000 years ago. It's actually just over 1000, and there are artistic depictions of them everywhere in many forms. No one said they were all blonde, but yes, they were white. Some, like now, you know, only 1000 years later, had a tan complexion, but none were black.

Shill on, though. It's what you're here for.

Where did anyone in this thread say they were black?

The girl cast in the movie isnt black either.

And scruffy showing up to join up with the people that tried to turn a thread about a movie into a race battle, inevitable as always.

You don't cast this chick as your viking girl unless you're virtue signaling. Painting her white is kind of ridiculous.

They cast her because she is just another movie nepo baby. Her mom is Thandiwe Newton.

Watch this.

I’m going to do an amazing thing.

You ready?

I’m going to ignore every post about race and every post you make in this thread from now on.

It is amazingly easy to do.

Meh... Don't know why the frick they are doing a live action, just 10yrs after the original came out. I'm sure it has to do with grabbing with the opening of Epic Universe.

I'm cautiously optimistic that Universal won't ruin it like Disney has done with so many of their live action remakes. That said, the original was pretty much perfect, so it's bound to be somewhat of a let down.

You did a pretty good job ignoring blueboys multiple posts about race and jumped in to criticize me for posting about hair and eye color.

It's pretty clear which posts triggered you.

My oldest is going to cry as we walk into Isle of Berk in a few weeks. I imagine we'll end up seeing this movie but it hasn't been mentioned as much as I expected.

Doing a theatee run of the OG version wouldve probably been good enough, but theres still a good shot this movie has some decent success. Not everyone is gonna immediately be able to go to Epic World so maybe they will go watch it to hold them over. Ill wait til its streaming unless my daughter cant wait.

Ah. It all makes sense now. Checking all the boxes, nepo included.

None of that means it's not weird that they painted her white, though.

The last few years Hollywood has entered a new era where they are still aggressively casting non-white people in what should be white roles, but they cast people who can kinda pass for white. They get to check boxes and erase white people while not drawing as much backlash as they otherwise would have if they gone full darkie.

Epic Universe has aspects of the three movies in it but they say it's set between two and three. We went ahead and watched 1 and 2.

If casting this lady's daughter is erasing white people then isnt casting that guys daughter doing the opposite?

Just got out. My family loved it. Very true to the original cartoon.

That's what I've been hearing, which is both good and bad. It's good in that they apparently didn't mess with the elements that made it great. It's bad in that, if it's basically a carbon copy of the original, then why did it need to be made in the first place, other than as a cash grab?

I've heard that the kid from Black Phone is excellent as Hiccup, but that he and the girl that plays Astrid have no chemistry, so the romance that blooms between them doesn't work.

Blonde hair is a recessive gene. It shouldnt be that shocking that it wouldn't be the dominant hair color in a society that picked up people from all over.

so you’re an expert on Paleolithic human migration too? how long do one people’s need to be in a place before the recessiveness of a gene becomes become predominant? 5,000? 10,000? 50,000? because a majority of Scandinavians today have lighter hair. not blonde, before you freak out, but lighter.

the viking era as we know it is less than 2,000 years old, closer to 1,000

I’d love to hear the explanation of how an entire race of peoples genetics can change in 1000 years. that opens up a bunch of really fun cans o’ worms
