I think they should've gone back in time to show more of a focus on the Sith and their time ruling prior to the Jedi Order. Star was was great because of Darth Vader, one of the most intimidating figures in movie history. Disney could've knocked it out of the park by creating intimidating new Sith members and showing their rule in a series of three movies followed by a sequel series that shows how the Jedi gained power and set up a reign for over 1,000 years (as Obi Wan alludes to in Episode IV).

Instead, they created this kylo ren clown and that other guy ("supreme leader") who they killed off before even developing him as a character.

In a perfect world they would have just filmed the Heir to the Empire series.

Tell new stories. Stop bringing back old characters and references for the sake of nerd nostalgia.

Avatar the Last Airbender. I’m convinced that was JJ’s plan. Do what they did in Season 2, but it’s all fricked now.

Agreed. It's impossible to match the success of the original films when you're just building off the same characters and storylines.

I was fine with TFA and felt it left a ton of potential. Luke is my favorite hero so that ending shot of him holding the Skywalker lightsaber had me excited for two years. Well, needless to say, that got shite on big time.

For starters.."Snoke" should have been revealed to be Maul.

Not some old random guy that holds no purpose.

The fight with ren + Rey against him could have mirrored the duel of fates in ways.

Plus knowing he has learned from mistakes.

He got his honorable final death at the hands of Obi-Wan on Tatooine.

I wrote an outline of where they could have taken the series after TFA after I saw the dookie they put out in TLJ. If I find it I’ll post it.

Basically Snoke would have been a fallen Whill who was the OG Sith who had lived for millennia and was working in the shadows collecting wealth and power, waiting for the moment to truly dominant not only the galaxy but the Force as well.

Sounds a lot better than TLJ. Star wars made its fame off of villains. This new series has none.

honestly, while Episode VII gets knocked for being sort of an Episode IV redux, there's nothing really wrong with it. It's a perfectly serviceable opening chapter that accomplishes the following well:
1. introduces some new characters while providing sufficient backstory for you to root for them, but enough mystery to want to learn more
2. gives older characters a chance to hand over the torch
3. gets the feel of a Star Wars movie down
4. provides interesting antagonists that you want to see more of
5. gives you what seems like a good idea of why the galaxy is the way it is and who the main players are

There is no reason why Episode VIII had to suck given the situation that was tee-d up for them. All of the elements were in place:
1. who is snoke?
2. who is Ray and why is she so powerful?
3. is there still good in Kylo-Ren? Will he reject the Dark Side?
4. What caused Kylo to turn to the dark side?
5. Why did Luke abandon his friends?
6. Why did Leah and Han split up?
7. Are Ray and Kylo connected somehow?
8. Where did the first order come from, and what do they want?

They just pretty much punted on everything, and it sickens me.

They could have just used the stories from the extended universe

If Rey had just taken Kylo's offer at the end of 8 it would have redeemed much of the movie. Instead it tripled down on all the bad things about it.

Honestly, it would have made more sense the ending we got.

What would have been really interesting would have been if she killed Luke in doing so.

That would have been subverting expectations in an interesting way that drives the story.

At the very least it should’ve taken place in a galaxy where the Empire was actually eliminated and the New Republic took hold.

That’s my biggest gripe with the new movies, it’s like the Empire was never actually defeated. In fact they’ve grown even stronger. It’s so dumb.

And Snoke should’ve been an Imperial pilot that was shot down in the final days of the Rebellion on a remote planet. He was severely injured and took refuge in a cave, only to meet the force ghost of Palpatine who taught him the ways of the Dark Side.

I almost used this phrase in my post too. For supposedly trying to do that, they sure were predictable.

At a minimum Leia should’ve been the Chancellor overseeing a faltering republic being challenged by the upstart rebellion of the First Order led by Snoke and Ren.

Leia reaches out to Han when she discovers Ren is involved. Han has since found Rey and introduces her as in the movie.

Rey’s storyline started out okay....she could’ve been the up and coming Jedi to be trained by Luke once they find him...to defeat Snoke and Ren as they look to reestablish the old Empire. Luke agrees as Ren was his making.

Luke defeats Ren but can’t finish him as Leia and Rey are watching. Then Kenobi style let’s himself be struck down.

Rey could’ve been Luke’s offspring that he abandoned once Ren turned for her own safety. .Snoke should’ve been the reawakening of Pal-patines mentor (cant remember his name) or Maul...who returns after learning the ancient secrets of the Sith.

Or something like that.

I was and still am fine with Rey not being special or related in any way to an OT character.

Everything else about her sucks.
