How quickly do you quit on a series?

Or do you stick it out no matter what? There’s so much good stuff out there these days. I try to finish everything that holds my interest for a few episodes but dammit life would be easier if I could just quit watching shite I’m not digging. What’s your breaking point? Or do you finish at all costs just to see what happens?

No hard and fast number but I can quit a series that I'm not really feeling from the get go pretty quick, even after one episode but the longer I watch a series, the more apt I am to finish even if turns to total trash.

Yes, I've been Dexter'd.

One of the great thing about the era of Peak TV is that it has cured me of my need to complete things. There's too many good shows to watch, so I can dump a show on a whim now. I usually will give a show that has been highly recommended about four episodes. If I don't like it by then... I got other stuff to watch.

Any SJW shite and I drop out immediately, never to return. It's just not entertaining, interesting, compelling, etc.

I generally try to give a show a full season to flesh things out. Largely because of Mad Men. I wasn't initially into the show but by season's end I was completely sucked in.

Unless it's just a really, really bad show or something I'll have absolutely no interest in. Then I might go 3-4 episodes.

Just depends. Most time I try to stick through something but every now and then I just gotta quit. Deadwood was that way for me. It’s a favorite series ever for tons of people, I couldn’t make it through episode four.

If I watch 1 or more seasons of a show Ive usually finished them. However, there are a few Netflix shows that I haven’t caught back up on for whatever reason.

Shows that I’ve quit on after watching multiple seasons and have no desire to finish: Weeds, Sons of Anarchy, House of Cards, Shameless

If I'm not into it after 2 or 3, I'm out.

People who say crap like "you've got to binge the first 3-4 seasons to really appreciated it when it gets good" must have zero interests in their lives besides watching streaming television.

Depends on how much a series has hooked me before it starts sucking.

And if I am binging a series that is already completed, it depends on how much there is left to go when I say “Yeah, not enjoying this anymore.”

For example, I bailed on 24 at the end of season 7, skipping season 8 and the revival stuff, because it had just been going downhill so far since the end of season 5.

Which shows start with that many poor seasons and still have people recommending them?

If I’m struggling to get through the second episode still, I’m out.

Once I do commit to something, I have to ride it through till the end no matter how much it starts sucking in later seasons.

I always try to give a show 3 episodes. The majority of of the time, I'll know if the show is for me by then.

I've watched plenty of shows that did not grab me after 1 episode, so I'm glad I give shows the extra chances.

1 episode. Life is too short to watch (crap) t.v. I will go back and try again if there is a lot of critical praise. Breaking Bad was like that for me. Did not like the cancer storyline in episode 1.

Obviously I have to be somewhat interested to begin with, and assuming I am I’ll give a show at least 3 episodes before I call it quits. Long enough to get a solid feel for the quality, story and characters.

I’m still watching Walking Dead. That should tell you all you need to know. This is why I don’t typically start new series right away anymore. I usually let them get some traction and jump in on season two or so if word of mouth is good. This has served me well as for as waistline time.

Screw that. If I don't like a show, or rather if it changes course so that I no longer like it, I'm not going to keep on watching. Why watch something you don't like?

I gave up on Ray Donavan when he started having the dead wife flashbacks. That show started with much awesomeness and then completely moved away from what was good about it (a Hollywood fixer with family issues) and into this never ending self-loathing dark drama with no payoff.

That’s probably the furthest I’ve gone into a series without finishing.

I will quit on a series at any point if I lose enough interest. Like you said, there’s too many good shows out there and not enough time to watch them.

I quit Shameless after season 8. I also quit watching Vikings with just one season remaining.

I usually give a series three episodes to settle in and keep my interest. The only exception I can think of where this was not the case is Supergirl. That was tied into the rest of the Arrowverse shows so I ended up watching much more of it then it deserved.
