I know it happens, I was just looking for examples of where it mattered to him. I edited it.

the rifles were removing from the cops hands at the end of ET and there's like a 5 minute apology at the beginning of Gone With the Wind. They completely deleted the episode from the universe of Bill Nye where he talked about there being only 2 sexes

So two movies and one TV shows that might matter to you. And how often do you watch ET, Gone With the Wind and Bill Nye? Once every 5 years maybe? Just buy those and watch the original. No way in hell am I going to keep wasting money on physical copies out of fear of them being edited some time in the future. If they do, spend a few dollars on eBay and get the ones that aren't edited.

i'm not offended because the poster only listed a few examples and completely 'loped off' the part of the post where he mentioned China.

disingenuous much? you're as bad as the movie censors.

10 Big TV Shows That Removed Episodes From Streaming Over Controversial Blackface Scenes

Ok so I'm just curious, how many of those do you own copies of?

Do you own season one of a UK comedy called The Mighty Boosh because one episode in season one was removed? Did you pay $28 on amazon for season 3 of the Golden Girls because one episode was removed from Hulu?

I'm not offended either

I'm as bad as movie censors because I think it is a waste of money to pay $20 for one 4k movie instead of paying $11 for Netflix and have almost 4,000 movies alone to choose from? Got it. No idea how you got there.

Just Scrubs for now, but will definitely buy a complete edition of IASIP once that wraps up.

Okay, cherry-pick the completely random shows, but you asked for examples of shows/movies being edited for streaming and I just gave you 10 examples.

ETA: This entire physical media vs streaming argument is pretty dumb. Most 4K and Blu-ray discs come with digital codes. So, you can have the best of both worlds and then you don't have to worry about licensing deals expiring on streaming platforms.

I still buy movies that I like on Blu-ray. I'm not all that interested in 4K, though. I have a plasma TV that I plan to use as long as I can before I'm forced to go 4K and "smart." (A PlayStation makes my TV just as smart as I need it to be.)

That said, I also like "owning" a digital copy of a movie for convenience. And while I hate to say anything positive about Disney these days, their "Movies Anywhere" service has some nice features. Most of your movie collection spreads among whichever accounts you have (VUDU, Apple, Google, etc.) which means that a whole lot of companies would have to go under for your to lose access to them. You can also give someone else a pass to browse your collection and pick something to watch.

LOTR trilogy in 4k at Target: $90
2,500+ movies and tv shows including LOTR trilogy on HBO Max: $15 a month

Yeah? Can you please tell me how long the licensing deal is with HBO Max for the LOTR trilogy?

I don't know. But odds are they are going to move to some other streaming service right?

I have the LOTR trilogy on DVD. I don't own a DVD players so they are useless but if you asked me right now, I'd prefer to have back the $60 I paid for them new instead of the DVD's.

Again, I'm not hating on someone for buying physical copies. But spending a ton of money on physical copies over the years because you're worried about what would happen if the internet went out or if some show you watch got censored, is kind of a weird reason to do so.

For a franchise like that, most likely (although playing whack-a-mole with titles jumping from streaming service to streaming service is a PITA). However, there are a lot of movies that just disappear entirely from streaming services (e.g. Cherry Falls), but that's admittedly a much smaller subset of films.

They're already obsolete for me personally. I have a huge binder full of DVD's in a closet somewhere that is pretty useless.

I'll take them off your hands if you don't want them anymore.

Someone who doesn't want one. Are you seriously bothered by that?

Discs are better for the full uncompressed audio soundtrack, but most people don't have the audio setup to appreciate it so would never know the difference.

I can't imagine watching a dvd on a dvd player & thinking "ugh, I can't even watch this low quality definition". Sure, there are movies out there that would be better on blu-ray/4k, but acting like DVD's are trash bc they aren't the highest level of HD seems silly.

I have been working on my physical collection the past few months to get ready for a Plex server. Things like comedies are almost always fine as DVDs and I didn't chunk them. I'm not looking to upgrade them to BR/4k.

Plex seems neat, but I don’t have a desktop computer just sitting on all the time.

I don't guess they're trash, but my eyes have definitely gotten used to the higher quality that Blu-ray/streaming offers.

Wait until you are a couple of years older. You won't be able to tell the difference.

Not sure if this is a MTV or Tech board post.

I have a huge DVD collection that is basically trash now. I also have a decent amount of Blu-Ray discs that are becoming obsolete. I've purchased a few physical 4K movies/sets in the past year.

I love having a physical copy of movies/shows that I love, but man, I hate the idea of having to do this forever. Digital is convenient, but you don't really own anything and some internet trouble will leave you looking at your walls.

I just wanted to vent, and give some of you a chance to make me feel better about loving physical discs.

Never. Streaming quality cannot come close to even Bluray and probably never will as long as very high speed internet connections are not ubiquitous.

You'll regret trashing them as Hollywood continues to edit and remove "harmful, insensitive" content.
